Mumbai: Maharashtra reported 2,779 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, and with that, the tally has now climbed to 20,03,657. Also, 50 people succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll due to 50,684. The number of active cases is now pitched at 44,926, and 19,06,827 people have recovered, as per the latest information shared by the state health department. Here are some of the other COVID-19 and lockdown highlights of January 22 from Mumbai, Maharashtra and rest of the country: Mumbai reports 697 recoveries On Friday, Mumbai reported 482 fresh COVID-19 cases. With this, the city's cumulative total climbed to 3,05,131. The city is now a host to 6,442 active cases. In the past 24 hours, the city also saw 697 recoveries. The total number of discharges now stands at 2,86,507. Mumbai's overall recovery rate remains at 94 per cent. Mumbai reports 92 per cent beneficiary turnout on Day 4 of vaccination drive
Mumbai: As the city's coronavirus vaccination drive marked its fourth day on Friday, a total of 3,539 health workers received the jab at 10 designated centres out of the targetted 3,852 beneficiaries. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that the numbers have improved considerably since the drive commenced on January 16, the main reason behind it being walk-in immunisation. As per the official data, only 48-52 per cent health workers had come forward to take the vaccine in the first three days of the drive. CM Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray visit Serum Institute of India a day after fire
Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, along with cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray on Friday visited the Serum Institute of India to look into the fire incident that claimed five lives. Along with Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla, they inspected the site where the fire broke out and also interacted with the officials to get further details about the mishap. On Friday, an investigation was launched to ascertain the cause of the fire by three Maharashtra government agencies -- Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Meanwhile, police have registered an accidental death and burning incident case with the Hadapsar police station, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil.
