India expects China to work with it to ensure complete disengagement “at the earliest” along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which was key to restoring the relationship, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday. The foreign ministers of both countries, S. Jaishankar and Wang Yi, in a phone call on February 25 reviewed the status of disengagement , which has been completed on the north and south banks of Pangong lake and is in progress in other areas along the LAC. One of the more spectacular sights captured by the satellites is the calving of city-sized icebergs from ice shelves — the giant glaciers transporting ice from the middle of the continent out to sea. Just last week, a huge 1,200-square-kilometre iceberg broke away from the Brunt Ice Shelf near the Weddell Sea. It's the first large iceberg to break off from this shelf in 50 years. Pawar said the Centre collects Rs 35.9 per litre of petrol and of this Rs 32.9 is collected as cess , whereas the state government collects Rs 28.9 as a value-added tax. Sources in transport associations say they are hoping the government will reduce taxes and VAT in the state budget. Last year, during the state budget, the government had increased VAT on fuel by Rs1.
