Saffron surge hurts Pink party’s purple patch
Despite facing reverses in the Lok Sabha elections by losing four seats to BJP and three to Congress, TRS emerged stronger by sweeping the local body elections in June this year. Its position in the assembly was solidified with MLAs from other parties joining its ranks. Election year 2019:After retaining power in December 2018 assembly elections, Lok Sabha election results were a big setback to TRS. Mumbai: Disabled commuter thrown off train by robber, loses leg
MUMBAI: A polio-afflicted woman commuter travelling on wheelchair was thrown off a moving Gujarat Express by a robber when she resisted his bid to rob and assault her in the compartment for the disabled on Friday afternoon. Nagma Ansari, a mother of two, had one of her legs amputated and suffered a fracture in the other. She underwent a marathon surgery at B Y L Nair Hospital on Saturday and is in a serious condition. BENGALURU: Onions are definitely making customers cry. But the skyrocketing prices brought huge windfall to an onion grower in Doddasiddavvanahalli in Chitradurga district — farmer Mallikarjuna became a crorepati in a month’s time. The 42-year-old debt-ridden farmer, who sowed onion seeds after taking a loan, said that it was the biggest risk he had taken so far. “I would have got caught in a bad debt if the crop had failed or the prices had crashed. But onions have changed the fortunes of my family now,” Mallikarjuna told STOI. He had reaped a bumper crop of 240 tonnes of onion (around 20 truckloads) while the price was racing towards Rs 200 per kg. Mallikarjuna invested Rs 15 lakh, hoping to reap a profit of Rs 5-10 lakh. But he hit a jackpot.
