It is a particularly depressing evening. On the surface, everything seems to be going well. Perhaps most people will tell me to be grateful for what I have. And yet, there is a certain emptiness — call it ennui — that fills the soul. And it is on one such evening that I read ‘My Brilliant Image’ by Hafez.I wish I could show you,when you are lonely or in darkness,the astonishing light of your own being!(translated by Daniel Ladinsky) Healing wordsNow if this poem were a pill, I would pop it every day to make my lows go away. It reminds us we have immeasurable power within us, power we often don’t see. Depression, anxiety may hinder healing in young patients with hip pain: study
Video PlayerClose CHICAGO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A study of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis suggests that while considering patients' physical health, physicians evaluating young patients with hip pain also should consider screening those patients for clinical depression and anxiety, impairments that can have a negative impact on outcomes following hip surgery, such as pain, slower recoveries and inadequate return to activity. The researchers analyzed data from more than 5,600 hip surgery patients aged 29 to 41. All of the studies in the analysis included evaluations of the effects of depression or anxiety on postsurgical clinical outcomes, such as use of pain-killing drugs after an operation, return to pre-surgery activities, and overall patient satisfaction following surgery. In every study, patients with anxiety and depression prior to surgery were statistically less likely to have good outcomes after their operations. NEW DELHI: Cine star Deepika Padukone, China's popular media personality Jin Xing and two other artists have been selected for Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The award celebrates the achievements of artists and cultural figures whose leadership inspires inclusive and sustainable change. Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates and Australian artist Lynette Wallworth are the two other recipients selected for the award. Padukone would be given the award for her leadership in raising mental health awareness, the WEF said in a release on Friday. "These wonderful cultural leaders are bridge-builders. They connect us to each other, they help us reflect on the human condition and they provide visions of the world that can cut through the limitations of short-term or linear thinking," Hilde Schwab, chairwoman and co-founder of the World Arts Forum, which hosts the awards, said.
