If data analytics is still a foreign topic to you, you are probably not the only one feeling this way. However, should you still be feeling this way in 2021? People who crunch data are not necessarily just data scientists who are phenomenal at math or brilliant at computer science and information technology. There are probably way more people who have mastered some level of data science or analytics. In fact, assuming data scientists are “unicorns” is the biggest misconception about the study of data science, said Teo Susnjak , a Senior Lecturer at Massey University of New Zealand’s School of Natural and Computational Sciences. Teo did not expect to embark on data science studies. In fact, he was a competitive tennis player prior to taking up data science. During his graduate studies, he was looking to combine tennis with computer science research which led to his journey with data science. “This was actually before the term ‘data science’ came to exist,” he quipped. ... » Learn More about Data analytics is the new Excel. LICENSED auctioneers nationwide are urging the Federal Government to review and improve the e-Lelong system which has taken a toll on their livelihoods. Muzakir Mansor, an action committee member representing state auctioneers, said their livihoods had been severely affected by the implementation of the e-Lelong system following the discontinuation of their duties to help conduct public auctions. “We do not oppose the e-Lelong system as we just want to be part of it. “We hope the Federal Government will heed our plight and improve the existing system by involving us in it,” he said in a press conference at Eastern and Oriental Hotel in Lebuh Farquhar, Penang, yesterday. Muzakir, who is also Penang Auctioneers Association chairman, was there to hand over a memorandum to Mohd Abdul Rahman Ismail, who received it on behalf of the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak. On November 12, 2017, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China signed a free trade and investment pact to strengthen economic cooperation between the two regions and stimulate economic development. The two agreements, the ASEAN-Hong Kong, China Free Trade Agreement (AHKFTA) and the ASEAN-Hong Kong Investment Agreement (AHKIA), were signed at the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila and will come into force on January 1, 2019. Chris Devonshire-Ellis of Dezan Shira & Associates comments: “This FTA brings Hong Kong into parity with mainland China which has had an FTA with ASEAN for several years. Hong Kong’s unique mix of China and Asian focused financial services and regional service support are a great mix with ASEAN’s overall reach and this agreement provides a much needed boost to Hong Kong’s overall attractiveness as an investment destination for Asia.” Strong trade links between Hong Kong and ASEAN Hong ... » Learn More about ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement Signed – ASEAN Business News
Md Rozi Darus was only seven years old when he lost a leg in a motorcycle accident. It happened along a dusty kampung road near Sik, Kedah, and there was nothing he could do to avoid it. Md Rozi, now 51, recalled the screeching of the motorcycle tyres and his screams of pain that fateful day. “Sometimes that’s just your lot in life,” he said. Not one to give up or wallow in self pity, he learned to move around using a cane in his younger years. Despite his limited mobility, he continued to provide for his family of six by cultivating a small farm in Kedah. Over the last decade, he has been using a wheelchair. “It comes in handy as I perform odd jobs in my kampung when I’m not tending to my chickens and ducks,” he explained. With frequent use and wear-and-tear over the years, Md Rozi realised that he needed a new wheelchair but did not have the means to get one. However, he soon found out that a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Sosio ... » Learn More about Foundation delivers hope
Maddie Ziegler and Eddie Benjamin practise laser focus, work ethic and gratitude at every opportunity. I tallied their use of the word "grateful", which came up no less than 30 times in our hour-long interview, but not in the woo-woo tonality often linked to Californians and Instagram stars. In the pursuit of their wildest dreams, they make a point of not forgetting to do "kid stuff" along the way. "It's a thing, because we're always working. We're like, let's go and do some kid s*** today. I bought this electric bike and we've been riding around the neighbourhood - in a safe manner." says singer-songwriter Benjamin, 19 with his signature gap-tooth grin. Work for the pair spans every aspect of the creative arts. Ziegler, 18, is arguably the most recognisable dancer in the world. She starred in the hugely popular reality TV show Dance Moms between 2011 to 2016 and cemented herself in pop culture history with a bounce-off-the-wall performance in Australian singer-songwriter Sia ... » Learn More about Creative power couple in the spotlight
