Dubbed the “midnight marathon,” the 42.195-kilometre race at the 2019 world track and field championships in Doha, Qatar, will be held at midnight in an effort to avoid the sizzling heat in the Persian Gulf state. Last week’s announcement of the world championship schedule prompted an outcry on social media. British marathoner Mara Yamauchi was among critics that took to Twitter, writing: “WC Doha 2019 marathon start at midnight?! PHUKET: Qatar Airways non-stop daily flights to Phuket International Airport from its Doha hub began yesterday, with the airline making good on its announcement last month. “The start of non-stop services from Doha to Phuket offers travellers from around the world access to the popular tourist destination in a reduced time, from across our expanding global network,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker in a press statement. The airline had been operating daily flights to Phuket via a linked service through Kuala Lumpur. Patipat Sawasdee, commercial manager of Qatar Airways in Phuket, said that feedback had been positive in terms of forward bookings inbound, as well as from local tour operators with outbound bookings to destinations in Europe. “We are preparing to issue promotional fares of 30 to 35 per cent below the normal price for a short period to stimulate the market,” he said. Yulo qualified for the eight-leg 2016-18 World Cup series only after turning 18 last Feb. 16 and competed in the final three stages in Melbourne last Feb. 22-25, Baku last March 13-18 and Doha this weekend. PHUKET: Qatar Airways will boost services to Thailand with the introduction of non-stop flights to Phuket from October 26. Qatar Airways is upping flights from Doha to Krabi to a daily basis starting December 1st. The increase in service is a response to strong demand for the destination. Currently Qatar operates twice-daily flights to Phuket from Doha and the service taps into the airlines considerable European network. Last year passenger arrivals at Krabi International Airport hit a record high exceeding the two million level for the first time ever.
