Snap plans to take its India localisation strategy to the world
After ignoring the country in its early years, the social media company is doubling down on the Indian market by rolling out localised versions of its offerings. This includes rebuilding of Snapchat 's Android app with support for nine Indian languages and an India-specific version of its content discovery platform Discover that now has over 85 local channels. In October 2020, it announced its first slate of mobile-first licensed and original shows for the Indian market along with its first gaming partner in the country. To be sure, India was one of the first markets where Snap Inc. made investments to localise its product, including building local augmented-reality creator communities, adding local content, and investing in local marketing initiatives. These tactics form the basis of a "repeatable playbook we can now leverage to drive growth", Andersen said. Multi-Tasking Brit Publishes Book About ‘Impossible’ Korea
August 09, 2013 08:29 A former correspondent for the Economist here has published a book that takes a look at his experiences in Korea and how Koreans view success. The book is called "Korea: The Impossible Country" and the author is Briton Daniel Tudor (31). Tudor previously distinguished himself with an article about Korean beer north and south of the border and is now a restaurateur. "I had a chance to visit Pyongyang and taste the beer there when President Roh Moo-hyun was in office, and was simply comparing the two types of beers," Tudor told the Chosun Ilbo. He said he does not find South Korean beer particularly bad, just that he longed for some variety. That's why he opened up his own pub near the Itaewon district in central Seoul frequented by expats and tourists. He teamed up with a group of friends to open The Booth. He claims to have learned the art of brewing directly from an American brewmaster and his beers have a more hoppy flavor than the lagers normally … [Read more...] about Multi-Tasking Brit Publishes Book About ‘Impossible’ Korea

HONG KONG -- China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has earmarked over 8.4 billion Hong Kong dollars ($1.08 billion) for the procurement and administration of COVID-19 vaccines, aiming to have the majority of the population vaccinated for free this year, a senior government official said Wednesday. "It is the government's top priority to contain the epidemic so that businesses and the public can be back to their daily routines," said Financial Secretary of the HKSAR government Paul Chan when delivering the annual budget. With the first batch of mainland-manufactured COVID-19 vaccines arriving in Hong Kong last Friday, the vaccination program started on Tuesday. The HKSAR government will also propose 1 billion Hong Kong dollars by the end of February to establish a vaccination indemnity fund, said Chan. Besides funding support for vaccination, the government has allocated 4.7 billion Hong Kong dollars to support the anti-epidemic work, including better … [Read more...] about Hong Kong earmarks 1.08 billion USD to vaccinate majority of population against COVID-19 in 2021
Biden to order a review of US supply chains for vital goods
The United States has become increasingly reliant on imports of these goods - a potential national security and economic risk that the Biden administration hopes to address with the planned 100-day review and the possibility of increased domestic production, according to administration officials who insisted on anonymity to discuss the order. However, Biden will also look to work with international partners to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain. The order being signed Wednesday will include sectoral reviews to be completed within one year for defense, public health and biological preparedness, information communications technology, energy, transportation and food production. Over the past year, the fragility of vital supply chains has been revealed repeatedly. The coronavirus outbreak led to an initial shortage of masks, gloves and other protective medical equipment. Automakers in the United States and Europe are now dealing with a shortage of computer chips. … [Read more...] about Biden to order a review of US supply chains for vital goods
