The Electrical and Electronics Institute forecasts the country's shipments will grow by 3.26% to US$64.1 billion (2 trillion baht) in 2019 as major destinations -- Japan, Southeast Asia and Europe -- have healthy economic sentiment. In terms of value, electronic parts are expected to grow by 3.55% in 2019, while home appliance shipments are projected to increase 2.97%. The institute also reported the country's shipment value in 2018 stood at $62.1 billion, a 2.16% increase from 2017. In 2018, electronic parts exports rose by 4.27% to $38.1 billion, with home appliance shipments at $17.5 billion, up 1.01%, and electrical power systems at $6.55 billion, a gain of 2.63%. Singapore non-oil exports see surprise drop in March, shrinking 2.7%
SINGAPORE - Singapore's exports continued to contract for a second month in March, but the pace of decline eased compared to February. Non-oil domestic exports (NODX) fell 2.7 per cent last month, partly due to a high base from a year ago, according to data from Enterprise Singapore released on Tuesday (April 17). The figure came in lower than the already muted economists' expectations of a 1.2 per cent rise. It was better than February's revised contraction of 6 per cent - its first decline after four months of growth. But February had fewer business days with the Chinese New Year holidays in the middle of the month. Last year, the holidays were in January. On a month-on-month seasonally adjusted basis, NODX decreased by 1.8 per cent in March, narrowing from the previous month's 2.7 per cent decline. SINGAPORE: Non-oil domestic exports (NODX) in Singapore declined by 2.7 per cent over the year in March, according to statistics released by trade agency International Enterprise (IE) Singapore on Tuesday (Apr 16).The decline eased from the 6 per cent drop in February as both electronic and non-electronic exports decreased at a slower pace, but was worse than the 0.2 per cent increase predicted by economists in a Reuters poll.On a month-on-month seasonally adjusted basis, NODX decreased by 1.8 per cent in March, after the previous month’s 2.7 per cent decline.Shipments to six out of 10 of Singapore's top markets increased in March, with growth led by the US, Japan and EU. Sompop Manarungsan, veteran economist and president of the Panyapiwat Institute of Management, yesterday said he was concerned about the risk of a full-blown trade war between the world’s two largest economies. Trump announced on Thursday a plan to impose tariffs on Chinese goods, accusing it of intellectual property infringement.
