India has urged WTO members to reach consensus on a proposal on waiver of certain provisions in a multilateral agreement on intellectual property to deal with COVID-19 crisis, stating that one cannot continue to engage in endless discussions when millions of lives are lost to the pandemic. Brajendra Navnit, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) said at the General Council Meeting on March 1, that there is a need for concerted efforts by all the members to ensure that WTO makes a meaningful contribution to defeat COVID-19 and prove that it can indeed deliver in a crisis. BARCELONA: Spanish automaker SEAT 's parent company Volkswagen wants a firm commitment from Brussels to support a potential project to manufacture electric cars in Spain, the German group's chief executive officer Herbert Diess said on Friday. The Spanish government announced on Thursday it will use European Union funds to create a public-private consortium with SEAT and power company Iberdrola that would build the country's first factory for electric-car batteries. SEAT said last year it was considering producing a small electric vehicle in Spain from 2025, but tied it to receiving public aid as carmakers ramp up production of electric vehicles to meet tougher emissions regulations. Video Player Close BEIRUT, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The European Union, via the Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis, adopted a 130 million euros (155 million U.S. dollars) assistance package to support Syrian refugees and local communities in Jordan and Lebanon, a statement by the EU office in Lebanon said on Friday. The package aims to support Syrian refugees in key areas such as social protection, healthcare services or waste management, according to the statement. For Lebanon, the funds will also help to alleviate the consequences of the Beirut port's blasts, which affected both Syrian refugees and Lebanese people. New Delhi: The Income Tax Department conducted raids on the properties of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actress Taapsee Pannu and director-producer Vikas Bahl on Wednesday (March 3) in relation to a tax evasion probe against now shut production house Phantom Films. As per initial reports, a discrepancy of around Rs 300 crore has been uncovered during the probe. The company officials reportedly failed to explain this discrepancy. “During the search, evidence of huge suppression of income by the leading Film Production house compared to the actual box office collections has been unearthed.
