News18 Daybreak | Shiv Sena Says Haven’t Received Seat-sharing Proposal as BJP Set to Meet Maharashtra Governor Today and Other Stories You Need to Watch Out For
Shiv Sena Says haven't received seat-sharing proposal as BJP set to meet Maharashtra Governor today A fortnight after the announcement of the Assembly election results, prospects of a new government being formed in Maharashtra have suddenly brightened, with BJP leaders slated to meet the governor today. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar following a meeting with Sanjay Raut snubbed the Shiv Sena leader’s claim of having the support of 175 MLAs. He once again asserted that the NCP and Congress would prefer to sit in the opposition, ruling out speculation of the party joining hands with the Shiv Sena. The developments came after the Rashtriya Swayamseval Sangh (RSS), touted as the BJP’s parent organization, threw its weight being Nitin Gadkari to broker peace with an adamant Shiv Sena and break the deadlock. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, whose party has refused to give up its claim on the post of the rotational chief minister, said his party chief Uddhav … [Read more...] about News18 Daybreak | Shiv Sena Says Haven’t Received Seat-sharing Proposal as BJP Set to Meet Maharashtra Governor Today and Other Stories You Need to Watch Out For
OPINION | With Naga Peace Pact in Sight, it is Time for Reconciliation and Benevolence
When hard metal ego gives way to the softer sheaths beneath, the hugs are warmer. It brings peace and tranquillity. At this crucial point in history, nothing can be more true for the ethnically diverse Northeast where the Naga political problem has an end in sight: bound to affect diverse communities proud of their own legacies. But here is also a huge opportunity for each stakeholder community in the region to give to the other, for the sake of future generations. The question is: will different peoples reconcile and be benevolent to one another? The Rebel Groups The Government of India and Naga rebel groups will most likely finally sign a pact four years after the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) signed a framework agreement in August 2015. The NSCN was formed in 1980, inked a ceasefire agreement with the government in 1997 and has been negotiating since. So have been other rebel groups since 2017. There is not just the NSCN but also others like the NNC, NSCN … [Read more...] about OPINION | With Naga Peace Pact in Sight, it is Time for Reconciliation and Benevolence
‘Accept Verdict in All Humility’: Modi to Council of Ministers Ahead of SC Ruling on Ayodhya Dispute
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked all his Cabinet colleagues to help maintain calm during and after the highly-anticipated Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case, said sources. “Accept the verdict in all humility,” Modi is learnt to have advised his council of ministers, asking them to refrain from making unnecessary statements on the issue and maintain an atmosphere of amity and harmony. He also emphasised that the verdict should not be seen through the prism of victory and defeat, added the sources. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi is expected to deliver the verdict in the case before his retirement on November 17. In the latest edition of his "Mann ki Baat" radio programme on October 27, Modi had recalled how the government, political parties and civil society prevented attempts to create fissures when the Allahabad High Court ruling on the disputed land in Ayodhya was to be delivered in 2010. He had … [Read more...] about ‘Accept Verdict in All Humility’: Modi to Council of Ministers Ahead of SC Ruling on Ayodhya Dispute
NSS data shows jump in ‘Housing for All’ in 2018
BY AMARJEET SINHA The July-December 2018 National Sample Survey (NSS) confirms the construction of 19.4 million homes or pucca dwelling units between January 2013 and December 2018 in rural areas. In the NSS 69th Round (July–December 2012), 65.8% houses were pucca. Six years later, this figure has reached 76.7%. This validates the public data available online of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) programme. A total of 16 million homes have been constructed since April 2014. Data shows that numbers of those living in semi-pucca houses has come down from 24.6% to 17.4% during the period. Those living in kutcha houses is down from 9.6% to 5.9%. In other words, 10.5 million rural households living in kutcha houses and dilapidated semipucca houses need a new habitat. This is eminently achievable before August 15, 2022. Why has the pace picked up with the PMAY-G? Can ‘Housing for All’ in remote rural areas become a reality? How have the so called Bimaru … [Read more...] about NSS data shows jump in ‘Housing for All’ in 2018
