New Delhi: Yog Guru Baba Ramdev has made an appeal to the government to resolve the situation of the farmers’ protests by suspending the farm laws for a duration of three years. He said he only wishes for peace between the farmers and the Centre. Baba Ramdev was attending the wedding of a businessman in Samalkha, Haryana, when he decided to talk about the ongoing farmers’ protests. He said that he does not intend to be a spokesperson for the government or a contract farmer, but he wants to see improvement in this case. Ramdev has appealed to the central government that the new farm laws should be postponed for three years and the farmers should sit with the government and discuss the policies of interest of the farmers and the country. Nodeep Kaur released from Haryana jail
Labour rights activist Nodeep Kaur was on Friday released from a Haryana jail after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted her bail in a case in which faces charges of attempt to murder, rioting among others, in an incident at Haryana’s Kundli of Sonipat district. The 24-year-old activist, who was in the Karnal jail, was released after the bail order. Her counsel Arshdeep Singh Cheema told The Hindu that she was released late in the evening. Ahmedabad: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said there should be less burden on consumers and both the Centre and states should talk with each other over reducing taxes on diesel and petrol whose prices have risen sharply in recent times. Asked if the Centre is mulling to reduce cess or other taxes on fuel to give some respite to consumers from high prices of diesel and petrol, she said the question has put her in "dharm-sankat" (dilemma). "No hiding of the fact that the Centre gets revenue from it. Same is the case with states. I agree that there should be less burden on the consumers. Procedure followed in Christian Michel’s extradition: India
India on Friday said proper procedure laid down in the extradition treaty between India and the UAE was followed in the extradition of Christian James Michel, accused in the AugustaWestland case. “The extradition was done entirely in accordance with the provisions of the Extradition Treaty signed between the two sovereign states. The arrest and subsequent custody were done as per the due process of law and cannot be considered arbitrary on any grounds,” said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement after the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UN WGAD)said Michel, a British national, was “arbitrarily detained” by India. UN WGAD also accused the United Arab Emirates of “unlawfully” arresting him.
