PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidate in the next general election. This was decided at a two-day leaders’ retreat in Port Dickson that began on Thursday. At the retreat, the leaders of all Pakatan parties agreed that Anwar would be prime minister if the coalition wins the 15th general election (GE15), and that he will head its election campaign. This was among the points of the “Port Dickson Resolution” released to the media yesterday. Anwar has been the Opposition’s prime minister candidate since he was sacked by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1998 when the latter was the fourth prime minister. However, because he was in jail during GE14 in 2018, Dr Mahathir led the coalition and ultimately became the seventh prime minister, and Anwar was supposed to have replaced him after gaining a royal pardon.
