Not enough emphasis is placed on kindness as a quality these days. Along comes the new Tom Hanks-starrer 'A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood' — a movie that leans on goodness. It is based on Fred Rogers (Hanks), a beloved American TV personality who impacted generations of children, helping them shape their ideals right to adulthood. The film uses a tried-and-tested approach. A magazine journalist Lloyd Vogel (Rhys) is sent to do a piece in 1998 on Rogers, the creator of the hugely popular children’s show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Vogel is cynical; perhaps because of his own baggage — an estranged relationship with his father (Cooper). Vogel is also struggling with fatherhood and feels frustrated that Rogers is more interested in him than in answering his questions. But we see where this is heading.
