From a bird’s eye view, the tale of India’s World Cup qualifying campaign has been rather consistent — concede a goal, create chances, fail to convert them and equalise with a last-ditch attempt, then rue the effort and move on to the next match. Unfortunately, that didn’t exactly turn out to be true on Tuesday. India got virtually knocked out of a World Cup berth after falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat. Even after fielding a comparatively attacking side, the Blue Tigers lost to a contentious Mohsin Al Ghassani goal right after the half-hour mark in the ninety-minute affair — Igor Stimac’s fifth loss in twice as many games as India manager. With just one win in manager Igor Stimac’s ten matches in charge, there does exist a general feeling of doom and gloom surrounding the national team. Barring a win against Thailand back in June, India have failed to win a single match, losing five … [Read more...] about Despite the gloom, India’s World Cup qualifying run reflects a silver lining
It was also an unusual day in that a Mercedes was the only non-contact retirement with Valtteri Bottas, who did score fastest lap before his motor used up its oil and expired. And a day when a Toro Rosso Honda out-dragged Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes up the long hill to the chequered flag despite Hamilton having fresher tyres. This short and old-school track, first used in this layout in 1990 but built to a longer, even more scary form with its first championship race in 1973, this natural bowl has over the decades delivered some memorable and outstanding races, and a few scary moments often driven by changeable weather conditions. Monay’s track, though, was bone dry and clean bar some discarded carbon F1 jewellery and scorched dismantled Pirellis from time to time. One man and his team had it all seemingly easily under control, just as the same Max Verstappen and Red Bull did in the appalling conditions in Hockenheim earlier this year. Nothing seemed to faze them; the start, … [Read more...] about F1 analyst Martin Brundle reflects on a wild Brazilian Grand Prix
Paris: Maria Sharapova's popularity and past success did not earn her the wild-card invitation she needed to get into the French Open after serving a 15-month doping ban. "I'm very sorry for Maria, very sorry for her fans. They might be disappointed; she might be very disappointed," French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli said Tuesday in a live broadcast via Facebook. "But it's my responsibility, it's my mission, to protect the game and protect the high standards of the game." Giudicelli said he personally told Sharapova of his ruling during a phone call on Tuesday. The French Open begins May 28. Three other tournaments, including the Italian Open this week, have given her wild cards since her suspension ended last month. "While there can be a wild card for return from injury, there can't be a wild card for return from doping," Giudicelli said. A tournament may grant a wild card to any eligible player. WTA CEO Steve Simon said he disagreed with the French … [Read more...] about Maria Sharapova denied French Open wild card

Her tryst with Sagoon started much before she became a part of Sagoon’s app launch event in New Delhi, in January this year, along with Bollywood starlet Shraddha Kapoor. Playing the title role in the 1994 television serial, Shanti, shown on India’s national channel, Doordarshan, which was the first-ever daily soap on Indian television, she was always the one breaking the status quo. As Sagoon is also among the few companies who are breaking the status quo of social media, it became her apparent choice to get associated, again, but now as an investor. Mandira has always been very vocal about keeping India first. Watch her saying why she supports Sagoon in this interesting interview.
