Bengaluru Traffic Police have deployed life-size mannequins, wearing police uniforms, at some important junctions in the city in a bid to reduce traffic violations.Mannequins, wearing reflector jackets, white shirts, khaki pants, white hats, and black shoes will act as a deterrent to traffic violations.Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bengaluru city, Dr BR Ravikanthe Gowda said that they are also planning to fit cameras in these to record violations.“Response to this initiative is very positive. People also take selfies with the mannequins. It’s useful in controlling habitual violators. In the future, we plan to fit cameras in these mannequins to record violations. Amid public outcry over new provisions in the new Motor Vehicles Act, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said hefty fines were not imposed to generate revenue for the government but to save lives of the people. "We are implementing this to create respect and fear for the law so none can do such type of thing. That is the reason behind it. A traffic sub-inspector was suspended by the Salem City Police on Wednesday after a video of the official issuing ‘unpaid’ challan after charging a motorist for traffic rule violation went viral on social media.Recently, traffic sub-inspector Govindaraj, while conducting vehicle checks near Mulluvadi level crossing here, stopped a rider for not wearing helmet while riding two-wheeler and the rider was fined. However, receiving the cash, the official issued ‘unpaid’ challan to the rider and refused to give a proper explanation for the incident. However, a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. In Mysuru, traffic offenders are being watched
Traffic offences booked thanks to the surveillance cameras installed at key junctions across Mysuru city have gone up, with the traffic police stepping up watch from its control room on the offenders by installing more high-definition cameras.At least 2,500 cases are being booked daily for violations caught on camera. Barring cases of driving without licence, driving without insurance, and drunken driving, instances of driving without helmet, jumping signal, triple riding, talking on phone while driving and such other offences are caught by the cameras. The number of cameras, including those with 360-degree view, has been increased from 40 to 59, and most circles, particularly the major ones, have been equipped to track offences round the clock. The violations are monitored on big screens at the centralised control room in the office of the Police Commissioner by a dedicated team of staff.
