DETROIT: General Motors Co's investors will see on Thursday how the Detroit carmaker is weathering declining sales and mounting price pressures in its largest markets when it reports second-quarter earnings.Slumping industry demand in China, the world's largest auto market, and an escalating price war in the lucrative U.S. pickup truck segment are ratcheting up the pressure on GM. KUALA TERENGGANU: Car show rooms and service centres in Terengganu are reminded to tighten security at their premises following a spat of car theft incidents in such centres lately. The latest incident was reported early Friday morning when three four-wheel-drive vehicles worth nearly RM400,000 were stolen. Last February, four vehicles were taken from a show room and service centre in Kuala Nerus involving losses of nearly RM540,000. In giving that advice, Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Aidi Ismail said police believed there was a link between the two cases based on the similar modus operandi of breaking windows or doors before taking off with several vehicles on show. SANDAKAN: Concerned at the danger posed by fish bombings, the Sabah Marine Police Force (MPF) and the Sandakan Fisheries Department have jointly conducted a special operation to inspect boats and wet markets to check the scourge. Sabah’s Region Four MPF commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said that the three-day operation was conducted since July 11, by an officer, 16 personnel and four Sandakan Fisheries Department officers, utilising two patrol boats, namely, RH54 and PSC66. ‘’The objective of the operation is to monitor the waters of Sandakan to prevent fish bombings and check markets to curb the sale of fish from such activities,’’ he said in a statement here today. He said that the monitoring activities were conducted in the waters of Bakungan Kecil Island and Selingan Island. The sale-exhibit showcased various religious images from the private collection of Maximo Vicente Jr. and his wife, Soledad Hernandez-Vicente. Sonny Tanchanco, Nedy Tantoco, lady guest, Marilen Tantoco and Ralph Joseph.
