NEW DELHI: Telecom minister Manoj Sinha reviewed the draft guidelines of the upcoming public policy on telecom sector prepared by the Department of Telecom, and said that it would be soon put on for wide consultation inviting public comments. “Reviewed the final draft of the much-awaited National Digital Communications Policy 2018 with colleagues in the department. We hope to make it available for public feedback soon,” Sinha tweeted Wednesday. Led by Sinha, the telecom department’s top officials including telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan and special secretary N Sivasailam discussed the draft provisions of the yet to be launched national policy. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) exhorted the mutual fund industry to build an adequate ‘liquidity buffer’ for debt schemes to be better prepared for any event of a crisis in future. The capital markets regulator has also asked mutual funds to participate more in the voting process of company resolutions rather than abstain from them. Sebi said the ongoing credit crisis that resulted in returns of various debt mutual fund schemes taking sharp hits has brought to surface the kind of liquidity pressures that the industry could face. “There was a debate if the mutual fund industry should be at par with banks having an SLR (statutory liquidity ratio) and CRR (cash reserve ratio).
