New Delhi: Two Indian engineers abducted in South Sudan by rebels earlier this month have been released, following intervention by the Indian government. News of the release was tweeted on Thursday night by Ajay Raja, Production Operator at Dar Petroleum Operating Company, South Sudan, who thanked External Affairs Minister for the release of the two Indians. "Thank you @SushmaSwaraj mam for your efforts to release the two Indians Midhun and Edward in South Sudan. My friends are back. Thank you," he tweeted. On March 9, Raja had appealed to Sushma Swaraj for her intervention following the abduction. "Our 2 Indians kidnapped by criminals @SouthSudan while in field work since March 8, 17. @K6270096Midhun @J1100553Edward @SushmaSwaraj. Help mam." The two men, Midhun Ganesh, 25, and A. Delhi air quality remains in ‘very poor’ category, AQI crosses 370 mark
New Delhi: Air quality in Delhi remained dismal on Sunday with air quality index (AQI) crossing 350 in most parts of the capital. At 9 am on Sunday, the overall AQI docked at 375 with Dhirpur, Delhi University and Chandni Chowk at 378, 383 and 389, respectively, said System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). At the city`s major junction such as IIT Delhi, Pusa Road and Mathura Road, the AQI was recorded at 341, 366 and 396, respectively. Locals complaint of breathlessness and fatigue and have urged the government to take requisite measures to combat the menace. "I feel sad that despite Delhi being the capital, there is so much pollution here. The government must do something about this. Too much smoke is around," said Ganesh, a local. South Asian Games: Vikas Krishan, Pinki Rani Reach Final as 15 Indian Boxers to Fight for Gold
Kathmandu: 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Vikas Krishan and 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Pinki Rani put up a brilliant display as they led seven more Indian boxers into the finals at the 13th South Asian Games here in Nepal on Sunday. While Sparsh (52kg), Varinder (60kg) and Narender (+91kg) were the others to reach the summit clash from the men, all the three women -- Pinki Rani (51kg), Sonia Lather (57kg) and Manju Bamboriya (64kg) cruised into the finals. The only setback for India was the defeat of Sachin in 81kg. With eight Indian boxers having already sealed their final places a day before, India will now have a total of 15 boxers aiming for the gold medal. Kharghar residents meet Panvel commissioner, seek women’s safety
In the wake of a number of sexual abuse cases being reported across the country, the Kharghar-Taloja Colony Welfare Association (KTCWA) members met the Panvel City Municipal Commissioner (PCMC) this week to suggest an action plan to avoid untoward incidents in isolated pockets of Kharghar.“After what happened in Hyderabad, the women of our association were very shaken and wanted to do something to avoid such a scenario here,” said Mangesh Ranawade, chairman, KTCWA.Kharghar, he said, was an education hub and students from the world over come to study in nearly 13 institutes there. It also has many isolated areas, especially beyond Central Park. “Even central park for that matter is isolated and mostly vacant.
