According to preliminary information from Duvvada police, a man named Ramakrishna (59), an employee of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, was heading to work at 8.15 a.m. on Thursday. When he reached Abhiram Constructions area, two unidentified persons intercepted him and claimed to be special officers from the city police department. They asked him to be cautious in the wake of rising crimes in the city and take out all gold ornaments which he was wearing and wrap them in a handkerchief. RBI’s desire to hoard dollars tests strong rupee playbooks
Bets on the Indian rupee’s rebound this year are already facing headwinds.The Reserve Bank of India signaled recently it won’t relent on dollar purchases that pushed the currency to the bottom of Asia’s currency rankings in 2020. Analysts had forecast for the rupee to rise for the first time in four years on hopes the RBI may slow its foreign-currency accumulation after the stockpile rose to a record.The RBI’s comments suggest “the large FX intervention that the central bank undertook in 2020 totaling almost $120 billion will continue in 2021,” said Khoon Goh, head of research at Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. in Singapore. “Persistent FX intervention will see INR underperforming regional currencies,” he said.RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Saturday that emerging markets need to build reserves as buffers against external shocks even at the risk of being added to the US watchlist for currency manipulation.
