Shades of pinkHave you seen a taxi called Pink in the city recently? This is an offshoot of Red Taxi, driven by women and meant only for women customers. Suganya, the person in charge, explains that the idea was mooted when Red Taxi began five years ago. “But we couldn’t get drivers back then.” However when a couple of women approached them asking if they could drive a taxi, they decided the time was right, “especially since there is a sense of fear given the number of crimes against women,” says Suganya.Pink was flagged off in March this year and has been well received, according to Suganya. “One customer told us that she sat in the front passenger seat for the first time,” she laughs, adding that the most frequent reaction is “that they feel safe. Maharashtra’s Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will request Parliament to pass the ₹5,000-crore Appropriation Bill to grant financial aid to farmers affected by unseasonal rains in the State.While it may take time for contributions or help to arrive from the Centre, Maharashtra will most likely draw ₹5,000 crore from its contingency fund, which has a withdrawal limit of only ₹250 crore a day, said senior officials. However, the Bill will also seek to raise the existing drawing limits of the CF, officials said. “The State government will raise supplementary grants in the next State budget for the same amount (₹5000 crore) to recover it as expenditure,” said a senior official from the Governor’s office.The governor will need to tap into the Contingency Fund following recent crop losses estimated to be to the tune of ₹8,000 crore. Both the fund houses have filed documents with Sebi for their ESG products. Do these funds offer anything special? Simply put, ESG investing includes building a portfolio of companies that meet high environmental, social and governance standards. Mumbai: Sundaram Mutual is launching a new open- ended equity scheme, a multicap fund- Sundaram Equity Fund. The fund opens for subscription on August 16 and closes on August 30. "The objective of the scheme is to generate capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of equity and equity related instruments across market capitalization," said Sunil Subramamiam, managing director, Sundaram Mutual said. The fund will invest in a portfolio of 45-59 stocks of companies.
