Surya Devarchana Devarchana is a native of Karunagappally, in Kollam, but she now lives in Kozhikode. The 29-year-old is a victim of the not-so-subtle fear and intimidation tactics that many of the women, who attempted to visit the shrine, have faced. Shortly after Devarchana took to Facebook to announce her intended pilgrimage to Sabarimala, she lost her temporary job with a private firm in Kannur. She has also faced harassment from Sangh Parivar goons. But Devarchana has not given up quite yet. She is determined to visit the shrine next month. “I don’t take the protests seriously because I don’t believe that the deity Ayyappa could have intended to keep women out.
