Sebamed took on none other than FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever in an ad campaign that brings up the pH debate for bathing soaps into consumer consciousness once again.Nearly half a decade back, it was HUL’s Dove that famously brought up the issue of pH for bathing soaps, when it took on competitors like ITC’s Vivel. This time, Dove, and sister brand Lux and Pears find themselves at the receiving end of the duel.Late last week, Sebamed released a barrage of ads across digital, print, and outdoor hoardings that compared the pH of its soap, with that of Dove, Pears, and Lux claiming that the three from HUL do not have the pH levels they claim. The campaign uses the same pH strip that Dove used in its campaign from back in the day, and the video has the same visual cues (actors in a bathing pool with flower petals) as the Lux ads featuring Bollywood celebs.
