By Travis M. Andrews The Washington Post Sun., April 7, 2019 A few friends showed up uninvited during Kit Harington’s first time hosting Saturday Night Live for a monologue sure to please Game of Thrones fans. The actor best known for playing Jon Snow — one of the best and worst characters on the hit HBO show — showed up at Studio 8H without the beard and long locks he’s become known for (and, for that matter, without a sword made of Valyrian steel). “I’ve shaved my beard, so this is a more prepubescent Jon Snow,” the actor, who looked downright carefree in his beige suit and black shirt underneath, said. Harington made clear that though he enjoyed portraying Jon Snow for eight seasons of the show that pulled him from the depths of appearing in films like Silent Hill: Revelation 3-D and Pompeii (“which, somehow, proved more of a disaster than the event it was based on,” Harington said), he’s ready for the next … [Read more...] about Emilia Clarke, other Game of Thrones co-stars crash Kit Harington’s monologue on Saturday Night Live

Shepherding tourists through the arches and towers of Croatia's mediaeval walled city of Dubrovnik, Ivan Vukovic spends half his time leading tours of a capital that doesn't exist: the fictional King's Landing from "Game of Thrones". The two cities now rival each other for fame after Dubrovnik -- already a tourist and cruise ship magnet -- became a set in 2011 for the cult HBO series, whose final season starts on April 14. Doubling as King's Landing, the capital of Westeros' Seven Kingdoms, "can be a blessing and it can be a curse" for Dubrovnik, said 38-year-old guide Vukovic. While the "Game of Thrones" stardom has been a boon for his business, it is also bringing a new inundation of visitors to a city already struggling with overcrowding. "It's an amazing thing because it brings us so many people, but now we don't know what to do with those people," said the guide, describing bottlenecks that choke the city's limestone streets in peak summer season. More than half of his … [Read more...] about Dubrovnik or King’s Landing? Game of Thrones is ‘blessing and curse’

Game of Thrones tried to do some good for the community, but it seems like the attempt has blown up in the show's face. Reportedly Game Of Thrones is asking fans if they're ready to Bleed for the Throne, it's part of a new campaign with the American Red Cross, which encourages fans to donate blood in exchange for a limited edition Iron Throne T-shirt and a chance to attend the show's much anticipated season 8 world premiere. But apparently, there's a catch. Per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, gay and bisexual men can't donate blood — so that means they can't enter the contest. It is being reported that the FDA's existing rules require gay and bisexual men to abstain from sexual activity for a full year before donating blood while women who have had sex with bisexual men within a year are also banned from donating. Reportedly the agency enacted its strict eligibility guidelines in an effort to reduce the risk of transferring HIV via blood transfusion — … [Read more...] about Game of Thrones hit with Shocking Scandal; Gay fans of the show being mistreated and excluded?
By Marc Santora The New York Times Sun., Aug. 19, 2018 DUBROVNIK, CROATIA—Winter is coming. But Katja Seref feels neither dread nor fear when she hears those words, uttered as a warning in Game of Thrones. “I feel relief,” Seref said, still wearing her costume, after a gruelling day leading yet another Game of Thrones tour. “It means I can get a break.” Every summer, the hordes descend upon Dubrovnik, a gem of a Croatian city nestled on the Adriatic Sea. The crowds are drawn by the same magical beauty that has long appealed to Hollywood location scouts, such as those who chose the city as the setting for the fictional King’s Landing on Game of Thrones, a hit show on HBO. But the annual invading army of tourists toting selfie sticks threatens what attracted them in the first place. After all, it is hard to feel the sublime majesty of this place when crammed in an interminable line simply to gain entry into the city.
