Other policies can wait: New BMC chief The BMC has shelved its recently announced plan to build an infectious diseases facility inside the Kasturba Hospital compound in South Mumbai. The move to shelve the project was taken after officials ran into red-tape, policy flip-flops and administrative bottlenecks. Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal told Mumbai Mirror that since the BMC was now focusing on setting up jumbo isolation centres, the Kasturba Hospital building would have to wait. "We have asked the MMRDA, CIDCO, MMRCL and various NGOs to build huge facilities. We plan to have around 8,000 beds. We have already got 1,000 beds at the Bandra-Kurla Complex where patients will move in. This is our policy right now. Rest everything can wait," Chahal said.
