SCREENGRAB from Netflix NEW YORK — The success of the French crime series “Lupin” on Netflix, riding on the heels of hit Spanish show “Money Heist,” may hint at a waning of US dominance on the small screen as ambitious European, Latin American and South Korean players kick down the doors on streaming platforms. “Ten years ago, 90 percent of creativity was in the United States,” said Pascal Breton, founder and head of the Federation Entertainment production company. “There were some good little local creatives, but it didn’t travel.” But the increase in internet speed, the rise of on-demand television and the example given by American pay channels, led by HBO, have pushed their counterparts abroad to bet on TV shows, having mainly relied on cinema and sport in the past. “Spiral,” (originally “Engrenages”), “Carlos”, or “Braquo,” all produced for Canal+, highlighted a growing global appetite for non-anglophone TV productions and series. Vico Sotto frets getting photos of ‘butt vaccination’ from Pasig dwellers
MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has lauded constituents who have received vaccines against the deadly COVID-19. But he fretted over those who may have shared “TMI” (read: too much information) to show proof: photos of butt vaccinations. On Monday, Sotto made a simple request for people to stop sending pictures of their buttocks after getting the coronavirus shot. In a live video, Sotto said he is happy to see people getting vaccinated against COVID-19, adding that he sees no problem with them sending him photos of their arms or shoulders to prove that they have received the jabs. But, he also said, there were instances when some people send him pictures of their tush as they were injected in that area for being ineligible to get the shot through their arms. “Nabanggit ko nga kanina may mga nagse-end sa akin ng picture pero alam niyo, nagpapasalamat ako doon ‘no. (Pero) minsan kasi pagka may tattoo, bawal magpa-turok sa braso, hindi pwede sa tattoo site ‘yong ... » Learn More about Vico Sotto frets getting photos of ‘butt vaccination’ from Pasig dwellers
Pagasa: If LPA develops into storm, it may enter PAR by weekend
MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) east of the country expected to develop into a tropical cyclone may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by the weekend, state meteorologists said Monday afternoon. Latest weather forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the LPA, currently located 1,636 kilometers east of Mindanao, may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 36 hours. It would still have no effect on the country as it is still very far from the landmass. However, Pagasa said that based on the global spectral model on wind directions, the LPA may move near the eastern side of the country, bringing rains over Mindanao, and other parts of Eastern Visayas. As of now, Pagasa sees a possible recurve scenario, or the cyclone moving back east toward the Pacific Ocean after it enters the PAR. “Hindi rin natin niru-rule out na posibleng within 36 or 24 hours or less ay ... » Learn More about Pagasa: If LPA develops into storm, it may enter PAR by weekend
