National – Thailand reported a total of 54 deaths, 373 injuries, and 388 road accidents on the third day of “seven dangerous days” of the Songkran holiday period, with its record on April 12th. Unsit Sampuntharat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced daily records of road accidents during the Songkran festival for the third consecutive day this morning, April 13th. A total of 388 accidents, 54 deaths, and 373 injuries were recorded solely on Monday. The most common causes of road accidents were overspeeding, accountable for 30.15 percent of total accidents, followed by drunk driving with 28.35 percent. The majority of 87.63 percent of accidents significantly involved motorcycles. Most of the accidents occurred on straight routes, accountable for 58.25 percent of total accidents. Driver dies after he plunges his car into Chonburi power pole
Chonburi – A driver has been pronounced dead after he crashed his car into a power pole in Chonburi. The Mueang Chonburi Police were notified of the accident over the past weekend on a rural road in Nongree in the early morning hours. They and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find both the damaged car and the power pole. The driver, who was later identified as Mr. Patikorn Sriwongon, 32, from Nakhon Ratchasima, was stuck inside his vehicle. It took about 20 minutes for rescue workers to free him out with a hydraulic cutter. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
