New GM for Sunshine Hills and Sunshine International Retirement Residences

Sunshine International has announced the appointment of a new general manager of Sunshine Hills and Sunshine International Retirement Residences. Mr. Lorenz Lopena has been given the opportunity to manage the two well-known Retirement Hotels and Residences. In 2012 at the young age of just 21, Lorenz started working for Mr. Andrew Stocks, CEO of Sunshine International. He took care of all the finances for Mr. Stocks's Foundation, including balancing income and expenses. At 24 years old, in May 2015, Lorenz narrowly survived a devastating car accident in Hua Hin. The accident was so bad he was forced to take six months off work. Every day he thought "Maybe I can never work again". The Car in which he was traveling was a complete write-off. He spent months in hospital and underwent many operations. Many people at the time believed he could never work again, and possibly never even walk again. Putting is key, says Superal

PRINCESS Superal is working on her putting ahead of her highly anticipated title rematch with Harmie Constantino as the top two bets prime up for the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Championship beginning on Tuesday at the Norman course in General Trias, Cavite. The 2019 Ladies Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit champion flubbed a number of putts in the final round while Constantino came through with clutch strokes, enabling the latter to squeak out a two-stroke victory at the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Challenge at Aoki last week. Meanwhile, the title chase will also be a question of length although the field is expected to gain some yardage on the hardened Norman fairways. Accent will also be on club selection given the strong wind conditions at this stretch of the year. That should set the stage for another down-to-the-wire finish in the 54-hole championship with the likes of Pauline del Rosario, Daniella Uy and Chanelle Avaricio also coming into the P750,000 event upbeat of their chances. 33-year-old businessman linked to alleged fraud of record $1b charged

SINGAPORE - A businessman charged on Monday (March 22) has been linked to an alleged fraud involving at least $1 billion, the largest in Singapore's history. Ng Yu Zhi, 33, is the director of two firms and said to have raised the money from investors, purportedly to finance nickel trading. The alleged victims were promised varying returns averaging 15 per cent over three months. But the nickel trades never took place and the investors are still owed the money, the police said on Monday. Ng, the director of Envy Asset Management (EAM) and Envy Global Trading, was charged with two counts of cheating and two of being a party to fraudulent trading involving about $48 million. He is expected to face more charges at a later date. Of the $1 billion invested in the companies between October 2017 and last month, about $300 million was allegedly transferred to his personal account. The Commercial Affairs Department has seized $100 million of assets from Ng. Neither of the firms ... » Learn More about 33-year-old businessman linked to alleged fraud of record $1b charged

Top 10 things to do in Phuket when it rains (2020)

Phuket really only has two seasons – wet and dry. The wet season usually runs from April to November each year. And when it rains, it pours! But there’s still plenty to do on the island, rain or sunshine. Best of all it’s always going to be around 30 degrees so it’s not cold or unpleasant. A 20 baht plastic poncho from 7-Eleven or Family Mart will sort of keep you dry. Here are a few ideas to keep you entertained on one of those rainy days… 1. Simon Star Cabaret There’s the famous Simon Cabaret in Patong and a companion show in Samkong with better parking and a newer theatre, but much the same show. “The prettiest girls in Asia” is the proud boast. Completely family friendly but be prepared for a few questions after the show if you take the kids. Also, if you want to get a picture with one of the performers after the show you’ll need to hand over 100 Baht or so for the pleasure. The shows are bright, spectacular, fun and a lot of fun. You’ll forget about the rain and ... » Learn More about Top 10 things to do in Phuket when it rains (2020)

Sydneysiders warned of deadly spider swarms after floods

The funnel-web spider is one of the world's most venomous arachnids. SYDNEY: A "plague" of the world's most venomous spiders could swarm Sydney after torrential rain and flooding, the Australian Reptile Park said Wednesday, warning that the deadly arachnids could seek refuge in homes as they escape the deluge. Relentless downpours have caused vast flooding in New South Wales state, with parts of suburban northwest Sydney still under water. Residents welcomed sunshine on Wednesday after days of rainfall, only to receive an "urgent warning" to brace for an influx of the deadly funnel-web spider, which is endemic to the Sydney region. "The upcoming warm weather and high levels of humidity is the perfect storm for a funnel-web spider BOOM in coming days," park director Tim Faulkner said in a statement. "With the incredible flooding that we've experienced across the Greater Sydney area, they have been forced out of their habitat and are seeking refuge in dryer areas," he added. ... » Learn More about Sydneysiders warned of deadly spider swarms after floods

Australia begins long clean-up as floodwaters recede

Widespread floods have devastated many parts of eastern Australia. RICHMOND, Australia: Flood-stricken residents along Australia's east coast began a massive clean up effort on Thursday as waters receded, revealing damaged homes, piles of debris and mud-caked roads. The region has been devastated by widespread flooding brought on by a torrential downpour that inundated towns, destroyed farmland and left two people dead. With the rain clouds finally clearing to reveal blue skies, thousands of people in Australia's most populous state New South Wales returned to their homes to assess the damage. Hundreds of troops and volunteer firefighters bolstered efforts in stretched communities, digging mud from roads and using chainsaws to clear debris from properties. Ben Shepherd, an inspector from the Rural Fire Service, said the teams wanted "to try and return communities to some sense of normality as soon as possible".
