Radhika Apte has shared her experience of negotiating an equal salary as her co-stars for “a very big production.” The 34-year-old actress was speaking at We The Women event, curated and moderated by journalist Barkha Dutt. Radhika discussed issues relating to sexism in Bollywood. Radhika admitted that she was surprised when the studio immediately agreed, but she also acknowledged that as an established Bollywood actor, she was in a stronger position than most women to secure equal pay. She, however, pointed out that position came with some compromises. “I have learnt in my life that saying no and standing up for myself constantly has gotten me nowhere. I have learnt to have different rules – say no to certain things, suck it up a little bit and then reach a place and say no and make a bigger impact. I am trying to do that," she told Barkha. "When I was a nobody and I came here, I couldn’t do anything. Today, I am working for a very big production … [Read more...] about Radhika Apte Recalls Demanding Same Pay As Other Actors in Big Movie, Says ‘I Put My Foot Down’

Some mutual fund investors love to recycle their investments in Equity Linked Saving Scheme or ELSS to claim tax benefit under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. The strategy is very simple: you recycle your old investment and claim tax deduction on it again after three years. However, the re-introduction of Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) tax may queer the pitch for these investors, say some mutual fund advisors. “Fundamentally, this process is unhealthy for your investments but now after the introduction of LTCG, you will be at loss since you will pay tax on the redemption,” says Vishal Dhawan, Founder, Plan Ahead Wealth Advisors. The finance minister has proposed to tax long term capital gains above Rs 1 lakh on equity mutual funds at a flat 10 per cent without the indexation benefit. For late comers, investments in ELSS qualify for tax deductions of up to Rs 1.5 lakh under Section 80C. However, instead of making fresh investments, some investors pull out their old … [Read more...] about Does it make sense to recycle your ELSS investments after return of LTCG tax?
MOS Burger Australia underpaid 285 workers across the company's six Queensland stores between 2011 and 2018, the Fair Work Ombudsman said. A Fair Work investigation into the company found it had paid unlawfully low flat rates to workers, and misclassified some employees as part-time when they were actually casual staff. The company currently has a workforce of about 90 employees who make food, serve customers, and work as store supervisors and managers. MOS Burger has outlets at Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, Southport, Broadbeach, Mt Gravatt and Sunnybank, according to Fair Work documents. Individual underpayments ranged from $18 to $31,975. Some of the contraventions included failing to pay 37 employees the correct base rate of pay, failing to pay 37 employees properly because they incorrectly classified casual employees as part time employees, and failing to provide 12 employees with a minimum of three hours per shift. It also failed to pay 49 employees the correct Saturday penalty … [Read more...] about Burger chain pays back Queensland workers
Pati Patni Aur Woh Cast: Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, Ananya Panday, Aparshakti KhuranaDirector: MudassarAzizRemakes can be a tricky business as comparisons are bound to happen with the original content. Here’s one right at the beginning: I had one problem when I recently watched the original Pati Patni Aur Woh (starring Sanjeev Kumar, Ranjeeta and Vidya Sinha). The writers and the director gave us naive women who will believe every word a man says, even agreeing to continue with a relationship despite knowing that the man cheated. Cut to 2019, three decades later, and Mudassar Aziz’s modern take on Pati Patni Aur Woh didn’t rectify that mistake either. The whole premise that a guy can so easily fool his wife and the woman he loves outside his marriage is so troubling.Watch the trailer of Pati Patni Aur Woh here: The film starts with a dashing voiceover by Jimmy Sheirgill who asserts that ‘aisa koi sawal nahi jiska uttar … [Read more...] about Pati Patni Aur Woh movie review: Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar make this comedy work
