BENGALURU: Data repository NSDL shut down Aadhaar e-sign services on Thursday midnight said sources. This follows a directive from the UIDAI, according to an internal circular from NSDL viewed by TOI. eSign is an online electronic signature service that can facilitate an Aadhaar holder to digitally sign a document. Such e-sign signature services were supposed to aid digital transaction and verifications. But NSDL has been facing a lot of issues in terms of integrating different data sets for purposes of verification, mismatches and submission of fakes. Sources said NSDL had approached UIDAI on resolution for some of the issues faced by Aadhaar e-sign services. Google’s new move will make it difficult for telecom operators globally to fix connectivity issues and expand network coverage on its own. In India, telcos like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone India and others might now find it difficult to identify weak spots in their network coverage in a particular telecom circle as Google has shut down Mobile Network Insights service, according to a report by Reuters. This service was launched by Google in March 2017 and it provided data to telcos around the world that revealed the areas where network coverage is bad. Google has silently shut down the service as it is concerned that sharing user generated data from user’s Android phone to telcos might attract regulators and could land it in trouble. The Punjab Police Friday claimed to have arrested an electrician of the Military Engineer Services (MES) for allegedly passing on sensitive military information to a Pakistan-based intelligence operative. Ram Kumar, presently living in Jalandhar, was arrested by the intelligence wing of the police, according to a statement issued by the police. Police said Kumar, during questioning, revealed that he was befriended by the Pakistan-based intelligence operative on social media and was asked for information about Indian Army units located along the Indo-Pak border and also movement of Army convoys in the area. He told police he had been working as an electrician with the MES in Jalandhar Cantt since 2013. Kumar was also asked for details of specific Army units by the operative, police said.
