The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) told the High Court that it will conduct one more round of public hearing in physical form on the draft Environment Impact Assessment/Environment Management Plan for the eight-lane Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project. A submission in this regard has been made before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum during the hearing of a PIL petition. KSPCB advocate Gururaj Joshi told the bench that the board is ready to conduct one more session of public hearing in physical form by following the COVID-19 guidelines after issuing a public notice notifying the date for hearing. He clarified to the bench that a physical hearing was conducted in August last year followed by a virtual hearing in September 2020 to enable those who could not participate in the physical hearing due to COVID-19 restrictions. Shanghai topped the national ranking in terms of urban modern agriculture development in 2018, according to a report released by Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Wednesday. The city was followed by Beijing and Sichuan province's Chengdu. Published biennially, the report is based on the research of over 14.81 million hectares of arable land - or 12 percent of the total arable land nationwide – in 35 cities that can grow 110 million tons of vegetables. Contributory indexes of the research include five first-level indicators like agricultural product security and sustainable development, as well as 23 second-level indicators. "With advantages in human capital and technology advancement, Shanghai excels in developing agricultural production bases, ecological quality control, and ensuring the safety and quality of agricultural products," said Zhou Pei, secretary of the Party Committee of the agriculture and biology school from the university. A shorter and convenient quarantine period will be put in place for next month's shooting World Cup, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has promised in order to not discourage international shooters from competing at the event. The ISSF Combined World Cup will be held in New Delhi from March 18 to 29 with shooters from more than 40 countries, including UK and Brazil, taking part in the event. "I have already assured that India will conduct international tournaments in such a way that COVID protocols will be followed but foreign players will not be staying in long quarantine and will not be discouraged to participate," Mr Rijiju said after visiting the new Motera Stadium here. Recently, a request was placed before the ministry that shooters be exempted from hard quarantine of 14 days and foreign delegates be given vaccine shots on priority.
