Investing made easy in 5 stepsFor many people, investing seems like a daunting task. They get intimidated with the investment jargons they think they should know. There are others who get afraid because of news from family or friends who had bad experiences with investments. How to retire in 10 years
MANILA, Philippines — Part of the president's yearly State of the Nation Address before Congress is his laying down of the legislative priorities and President Rodrigo Duterte's on Monday began with a request to Congress to "reinstate the death penalty for heinous crimes related to drugs, as well as plunder." Unlike in previous SONAs, Duterte did not mention amending the 1987 Constitution for a shift to a federal form of government—a campaign promise and a recurring theme in his speeches. Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez had urged the House to replace the constitution hours before he lost leadership of the lower chamber to Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who managed to pass a draft constitution on third and final reading. The proposal did not fly at the Senate, though, and with a seeming lack of public support or even awareness of plans for federalism, Duterte said that he would be fine with just charter change. He mentioned neither on Monday, the first day of the 18th Congress. Aside … [Read more...] about Bills that Duterte asked Congress to pass in 4th SONA

An OFW asks, 'Should I buy my health insurance now for my retirement in the Philippines 10 years from now?' Question: Hi Miss Rose! I wish to check your thoughts on this po. Any suggestions po? Mag-iipon na lang po ba kami at bibili na lang ng health insurance paguwi namin sa Pinas? Ang downside po kasi e baka may pre-existing conditions na by that time. Looking forward to your inputs po. Thanks and God bless. Answer: Hi Resie. I’m glad to hear that you currently have a good health insurance coverage in Singapore. I also admire your proactive attitude about your retirement and a good retirement definitely includes your health matters taken care of. It is … [Read more...] about An OFW asks, ‘Should I buy my health insurance now for my retirement in the Philippines 10 years from now?’
What’s new for BPI in Makati and Aboitiz in Cebu? I was in Makati for a day to attend the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) annual stockholders meeting where media from the Visayas and Mindanao were invited. Actually, it was the first time for BPI to invite the Cebu and Davao media to their annual stockholders meeting and it was good for me to meet with our old friends, Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and his brother Fernando where we talked about the old days when they went to Cebu with their motorcycles to ride with us. Unfortunately our good friend, Bobby Aboitiz who played host with them, passed away two years ago. As the top honchos of BPI pointed out, BPI for the 1st Quarter of 2019 posted a 7.6 percent increase in its net income, which stands at P6.72 billion and up to 10.5 percent versus the 4th Quarter of 2018. In their joint message to the BPI stockholders, chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and President and CEO Cezar Consing, noted, … [Read more...] about What’s new for BPI in Makati and Aboitiz in Cebu?
