A digital rendition of Livin Ramkhamhaeng, a Risland project worth 4.9 billion baht. Chinese-owned, Hong Kong-based developer Risland Thailand will take a wait-and-see approach on the Thai property market this year, but aims to have presales growth of 10%, driven by existing condo inventory. Paul Nie, the company's regional sales and marketing general manager, said on Monday the Thai property market will recover this year as vaccines became available and are being distributed to target groups. "The market will improve from last year but will be unlikely the same level as 2018, one of the best years for the condo sector," he said. The company will have no new projects launched in the first half of 2021 as it will spend time conducting a market feasibility study. It will monitor the situation in the second half of this year before launching new projects. Since 2018, the company's first year in Thailand, it has launched 2-3 new projects worth around 7 billion baht per year. ... » Learn More about Risland bides time on launches

Forestry Officials Seize American Home for Alleged Forest Encroachment
Forestry officials in Thailand’ Phetchabun province have seized the home of an American man saying his home encroached forest lands. The American allegedly built his house on Phloklon national forest reserve in Phetchabun . Forestry authorities filed a police complaint following an investigation by a team of 15 forestry officers, soldiers and local officials. The site was located in tambon Khao Kho. They were acting on complaints that an American had illegally built a luxury house in a reserved forest area. The site in question, officials say, was originally two Ror Or Sor plots. Land allocated by the army to defence volunteers who fought communist insurgents four decades ago. Such plots are not supposed to be sold. Somehow the land ended up in the hands of a forestry official. Whom in turn sold it to a woman who works in the Office of the Prime Minister. She then allowed an American friend, identified later as Paul Boehler, 53, to build there. Sarawak’s infra spending to boost Perbena Emas’ outlook, Pansar says
Pansar Bhd expects Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd (PESB) to contribute long-term profitability to the group, driven by a positive outlook in the construction and engineering sectors in Sarawak. The group had in September last year announced that it entered into a conditional share purchase agreement with PE Holdings Sdn Bhd to acquire 100 per cent equity interest in the issued share capital of PESB for a purchase consideration of RM151 million. The company had later received the shareholders’ approval for the proposed acquisition on Dec 22 through an extraordinary general meeting. In a statement Monday, Pansar said the construction sector in Sarawak is expected to prosper over the next few years, driven by the RM22 billion in spending for infrastructure projects by the Sarawak government, including the Second Trunk Road, coastal road upgrades, water grid programmes, rural electrification projects, and telco towers. "At the time of the exercise in August 2020, PESB’s order book was at ... » Learn More about Sarawak’s infra spending to boost Perbena Emas’ outlook, Pansar says

SEOUL (AFP) - South Korean Olympic short track speed skating gold medallist Lim Hyo-jun was convicted on Thursday (May 7) of sexually harassing a fellow male athlete by pulling down his trousers, a Seoul court said. The 23-year-old won the 1,500m on home ice at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang and also took bronze in the 500m. But last year he was charged for forcibly pulling down the victim's clothing in front of teammates at the national training centre, and in August was banned from competition for a year. He was fined three million won (S$3,473) and ordered to undergo 40 hours of therapy for sex offenders, a spokesman for the Seoul Central District Court told AFP. Reports said prosecutors had requested a prison sentence. The South is a regional sporting power and regularly in the top 10 medal table places at the summer and winter Olympics. But in an already intensely competitive society, winning is virtually everything in its sports community - and ... » Learn More about Speed skating: S. Reader talkback results: What time should bars and clubs close in Pattaya?
Pattaya- The following is our popular weekly reader talkback results feature in which we ask our readers a question, usually one that is currently in the news, and then highlight a diverse range of answers roughly a week later. Last week, we asked you the following question: Reader TalkBack: What time should bars and clubs in Pattaya close? This came after many complaints from the local bar and nightlife owners who have been pressuring city, regional, and national leaders to relax closing times for businesses in the Chonburi area, especially tourism and nightlife-dependent Pattaya. We decided to wait to post the responses until today, Wednesday, February 24th, as the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration officially changed the hours this week by moving Pattaya to a lower risk zone. This now allows Pattaya to close nightlife venues at midnight, an improvement from 11:00 P.M. which was fairly strictly enforced since nightlife venues were allowed to re-open on ... » Learn More about Reader talkback results: What time should bars and clubs close in Pattaya?
Senators laud women’s role in pandemic fight
SENATORS Ana Theresia Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan on Sunday recognized the invaluable contributions of Filipino women in the country’s fight against the pandemic. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 70 percent of the health and social workforce is made up of women. In a 2019 study, WHO stressed that investments in the health workforce could lead to women’s economic empowerment. For instance, while the majority of healthcare workers are women, they earn, on average, 28 percent less than men. For this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day, Hontiveros stressed that women and the Filipino spirit of bayanihan (communal unity) are key factors in the country’s recovery. “The pandemic only exacerbated the multiple burdens women already carry. If we want to wholly recover from this crisis, we need to band together to better support our women,” she said in a statement. “The past year is unlike any other, and as we commemorate International Women’s Day, we ... » Learn More about Senators laud women’s role in pandemic fight
Stimulus, Local Demand Helping Thailand’s Economy Slowly Recover
Thailand’s economy in 2020 performed at its lowest levels in over two decades, just-released, full-year data shows. The year’s 6.1% contraction falls short of the devastating 7.6% decline that occurred in 1997 during the Asian Financial Crisis. Officials blamed the demise on Thailand’s economy from the gutted tourism industry ; due to travel and border restrictions, and ongoing political upheaval within the Kingdom. They also made it clear that they now expect the economic rebound of 2021 to be much slower than initially predicted. This news is another blow to the millions of struggling business owners and workers who are suffering since travel stopped and the tourism industry collapsed. Secretary general of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), Danucha Pichayanan, explained the government’s stimulus package is the reason the shocking economic decline slowed in the last quarter of the year. A long term effect of stimulus loans is ... » Learn More about Stimulus, Local Demand Helping Thailand’s Economy Slowly Recover
