Can we still be ‘Friends’? I have a confession to make: I still watch Friends almost every night. It’s part of a routine after a long day at work: I sit down to eat a very late dinner, I turn on Netflix and and cast Friends from my phone. It’s just like it’s the 2000s all over again. Like any kid who grew up in the ‘90s, I remembered when it was a sitcom that aired on ABC-5 (and on the Japanese channel WOWOW as well) that continued the glory days of TV sitcoms on American TV; some would argue that it’s actually the summit of that mountain. It’s an iconic TV show — so iconic that it has become a point of reference for the 1990s. And the fact that in 2018 Netflix bought the exclusive streaming rights of Friends for over $100 million says something. It remains compulsively watchable for many, and to some, a relic that is better left in its era. I can’t recall why my budding teen self identified with … [Read more...] about Can we still be ‘Friends’?

Question from a reader: Hi Ms. Rose. I just wanted to send you a message to tell you that you are such an influential woman and I really look up to you. Have you ever wondered how we came about this concept of retirement? In the beginning there was no retirement. People worked until they died. So who invented retirement? Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck, the inventor of Retirement. In 1883, Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck of Germany had a problem. Marxists were threatening to take control of Europe. To prevent his countrymen from joining the Marxist group, Bismarck invented the concept of retirement and announced that he would pay pension to any nonworking German over age 65, 70 years old to be exact. This was of course a calculated political move because hardly anyone lived to reach that age at the time. It was such a great move that it became a trend even in other countries. All around the world, as older workers showed less productivity in their … [Read more...] about Why We Should Reinvent Re-Tirement

Any suggestions po? Mag-iipon na lang po ba kami at bibili na lang ng health insurance paguwi namin sa Pinas? Ang downside po kasi e baka may pre-existing conditions na by that time. Looking forward to your inputs po. Thanks and God bless. Answer: Hi Resie. I’m glad to hear that you currently have a good health insurance coverage in Singapore. I also admire your proactive attitude about your retirement and a good retirement definitely includes your health matters taken care of.
