Alvarez offers to reconcile with Sara Jess Diaz (The Philippine Star) - May 18, 2019 - 12:00am MANILA, Philippines — Reelected Davao del Norte first district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez yesterday offered to reconcile with his political enemies, including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, with whom he had a bitter feud before he was ousted as House speaker in July last year. He made the initiative five days after his PDP-Laban ticket made a clean sweep of the elections in his province, beating candidates fielded by the mayor’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago, including three belonging to the Floirendo-del Rosario political clan. “Now that elections are over, I offer my hand in peace to heal our deep and divisive wounds,” Alvarez said in a statement, without referring specifically to President Duterte’s daughter or his former friend, outgoing Davao del Norte second district Rep. Antonio Floirendo Jr., with … [Read more...] about Alvarez offers to reconcile with Sara
By Heather Mallick Star Columnist Mon., May 6, 2019 The federal government’s latest effort to make smoking unattractive will require all cigarette packages to be muddy brown instead of a glossy white, with close-up photos of oral cancer and a skeletal woman dying of lung cancer. It’s a particularly flat brown, which Australian antismoking campaigners have called the ugliest colour in the world. One photo shows a tongue coated in white rubble but Health Canada had tested far more upsetting photos, including people vomiting blood and the visual effects of what I will refer to as lower-down cancers. It seems unfair since people who never smoked also get these cancers, which means they have to offer tedious explanations during chemotherapy to insensitive people judging them as weak-willed, spendthrift, tar-blackened burdens on the health system. Health Canada also considered printing SMOKING CAUSES CANCER on each cigarette but that’s not … [Read more...] about Will the colour brown deter smokers? I doubt it
(The Philippine Star) - May 6, 2019 - 12:00am Forgive as the Lord forgave you. — Colossians 3:13 I arrived early at my church to help set up for an event. A woman stood crying at the opposite end of the sanctuary. She’d been cruel and gossiped about me in the past, so I quickly drowned out her sobs with a vacuum cleaner. Why should I care about someone who didn’t like me? When the Holy Spirit reminded me how much God had forgiven me, I crossed the room. The woman shared that her baby had been in the hospital for months. We cried, embraced, and prayed for her daughter. After working through our differences, we’re now good friends. In Matthew 18, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a king who decided to settle his accounts. A servant who owed a staggering amount of money pleaded for mercy. Soon after the king canceled his debt, that servant tracked down and condemned a man who owed him far less than what he’d owed the king. … [Read more...] about Should I forgive?

Any suggestions po? Mag-iipon na lang po ba kami at bibili na lang ng health insurance paguwi namin sa Pinas? Ang downside po kasi e baka may pre-existing conditions na by that time. Looking forward to your inputs po. Thanks and God bless. Answer: Hi Resie. I’m glad to hear that you currently have a good health insurance coverage in Singapore. I also admire your proactive attitude about your retirement and a good retirement definitely includes your health matters taken care of. It is … [Read more...] about An OFW asks, ‘Should I buy my health insurance now for my retirement in the Philippines 10 years from now?’
DOJ: Palace offering P10-M bounty for Acierto MANILA, Philippines — The hunt for former police official Eduardo Acierto, who is wanted on drug charges over the smuggling of billions worth of shabu shipments last year, intensified as the government yesterday offered a P10-million reward for his arrest. Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra revealed that the Palace has raised the bounty for any information that would lead to Acierto’s arrest. “The bounty is from Malacañang, so I’m not privy to where it will be sourced. It’s not from DOJ because such amount is certainly much larger than what the DOJ could offer,” he said in a text message. Guevarra said the DOJ will not offer a similar reward money and instead focus on Acierto’s possible coddlers and protectors. “We will have them wherever Acierto may be found hiding and brought to inquest immediately,” he stressed. He reiterated that Acierto’s … [Read more...] about DOJ: Palace offering P10-M bounty for Acierto
