New Delhi: India recently took a batch of foreign envoys to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. India’s 2022 FIFA World Cup/2023 Asian Cup qualifying round matches, which were scheduled to be played next month, have been postponed to June due to coronavirus-related travel and quarantine restrictions. The second round of qualification matches have not been held since November 2019 due to COVID-19 pandemic. In November last year, the AFC had said that the matches will be held in March and June this year without specifying the exact dates. The Asian Football Confederation announced on Friday that the majority of Asia’s 2022 World Cup qualifying matches in March will be postponed to May and June — with a few exceptions that include Japan, Australia and Saudi Arabia. “Taking into consideration the existing travel and quarantine restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic across the continent, the AFC and FIFA have jointly agreed to postpone the majority of the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” the AFC said in a statement. “... all the Asian ... » Learn More about India’s football World Cup qualifying round matches scheduled for March postponed to June

Remembering India’s valiant hero Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 90th death anniversary

New Delhi: February 27, 2021, marks the 90th death anniversary of the Indian revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad. Azad was killed on this day in 1931 in Alfred Park, Allahabad after an associate betrayed him. For quite some time, he held the well-armed police that circled him at bay, single-handedly with a small pistol and a few cartridges. However, left with just one bullet, he shot himself in the head and lived up to his resolve that he would never be arrested and dragged to the gallows to be hanged. Below are some facts on the freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for the nation: Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra village, Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh to Pandit Sita Ram Tiwari and Jagrani Devi. He received his early schooling in Bhavra. He went to the Sanskrit Pathashala at Varanasi for higher studies. Young Chandra Shekhar was fascinated by and drawn to the great national upsurge of the non-violent, non-cooperation movement of ... » Learn More about Remembering India’s valiant hero Chandra Shekhar Azad on his 90th death anniversary

How Facebook Oversight Board sees India’s new social media rules

New Delhi: Policymakers and regulators have a valuable role to play on content moderation issues and issues concerning Facebook , the social media giant’s content oversight board told The Economic Times in response to queries on India's new social media rules . “We see the oversight board as one part of the solution to content moderation issues around the world,” said the Facebook Oversight Board , which was created to review content takedowns on Facebook and Instagram based on user appeals and cases referred to it by the company. “The oversight board wasn’t designed to solve every issue with Facebook. Policymakers and regulators have a valuable role to play.” In its first Indian case, the oversight board had in February overturned Facebook's decision to remove a post under its “violence and incitement community standard”. The board said Facebook has so far complied with all of its case decisions. “We do expect that as the work of the board becomes more widely ... » Learn More about How Facebook Oversight Board sees India’s new social media rules
