New Delhi: In unprecedented protests by the Delhi Police, thousands of its personnel on Tuesday laid siege to the police headquarters at ITO for 11 hours and staged a virtual revolt, bringing traffic in the area to a standstill. The stir was called off at night following multiple appeals, including from their chief and other senior officers, which promised that their demands would be addressed. The protests, which were sparked by two attacks on police personnel, also witnessed the families of cops take to the streets and demand justice. More than six appeals were made by senior police officers like Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Devesh Srivastva, Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Anand Mohan, Joint Commissioner of Police (Central) Rajesh Khurana, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police RS Krishnia, but the protestors did not budge. GUWAHATI: Assam, along with several other parts of the northeast, is staring at a two-day shutdown with several organisations calling for a bandh in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB). While apex students’ body, North East Students’ Organization (Neso) has called a strike across the northeast, the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU), All Assam Chutia Students’ Union and All Moran Students Union have called for a strike in Assam on Monday. Karnataka bypoll results: All you need to know
Scenario 1: 3.5 more years for CM BSYThe BJP needs at least six seats to save its four-month-old government (it has the support of independent Mulbagal MLA and excise minister H Nagesh). If it scores less than six, then the Congress and JD(S) will swing back into the power play, attempting one more inning of a coalition government. Scenario 2: JD(S) emerge as the kingmakerThe opposition parties, especially the JD(S), are hoping to limit the BJP to less than five seats. This could pave the way for a new alliance with the JD(S) emerging kingmaker. The regional party could either support the BJP, or it could forge another alliance with the Congress. Scenario 3: President’s ruleConversely, if the BJP does not win the required six seats, it could lead to more political uncertainty, fueled by a spate of resignations by disgruntled legislators from the JD(S) and the Congress. JD(S), led by former CM HD Kumaraswamy, could lend outside support or become part of a BJP-led coalition. On the … [Read more...] about Karnataka bypoll results: All you need to know
