Pattaya- Two hours of rain in the Pattaya and Banglamung area yesterday afternoon (February 17 th ) brought major flooding and traffic delays on many Pattaya roads. The rain hit about 4:00 P.M. and lasted for two hours. Water found on road surfaces ranged from about 10 centimeters to over 40 centimeters high on both lanes of Sukhumvit Road and small roads causing multiple traffic delays. At the same time, parents found difficulty picking their children up at Mueang Pattaya 4 School, with many kids and their parents seen wading through deep water to get home. Traffic police and law enforcement officers assisted to direct motorists with the traffic and assist with those people stranded in floodwaters. One hour after the rain stopped, the water level decreased and the traffic was back to normal. Alabang Viaduct in Muntinlupa gets facelift via ‘Green, Green, Green’ project
THE former shunned area under Alabang Viaduct is no longer an eyesore to motorists traversing the South Luzon Expressway and local residents following its conversion as a blooming open space featuring native flora and fauna design. Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi leads the inauguration ceremony of Phase 1 of the Development of Alabang Viaduct, an initiative of the National Government through its “Green, Green, Green” program on February 24. Fresnedi thanked the Department of Budget Management for selecting Muntinlupa as one of the recipients of the “green fund” amounting to P17.29 million. The local exec said the beautification of the area is a welcome development to the city’s green space and park improvement efforts. ZAMBOANGA CITY: A Bangladeshi bulk carrier, the Akij Pearl, escaped pirates who tried to board the cargo vessel while sailing off Sibutu Island in the province of Tawi-Tawi near the Malaysian border, reports said. The incident, which occurred on March 3, was only reported on Sunday by the ReCAAP Information Sharing Center, which immediately issued a warning and urged ship master and crew to exercise extra vigilance when transiting the waters off Eastern Sabah and in the Sulu-Celebes Seas, in particular waters off Sibutu Island. ReCAAP stands for Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia. “While the bulk carrier was underway, an unidentified speed boat with three perpetrators on board attempted to board the ship.
