MARGAO: The core team from Fifa and Local Organising Committee (LOC) was “extremely happy” during their inspection visit of the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda on Thursday. Goa is one of the five venues shortlisted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), four of which will get the nod for the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020. Apart from Goa, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Mumbai have been shortlisted. The Fifa team was represented by Nicholas and Oliver, along with tournament director Roma Khanna. Another team from Fifa will visit India in December with the tournament most likely to be conducted in October or November next year. “We had a pleasant meeting in the morning. They have gone around the stadium and now they will prepare a to-do list. Wu, who took gold in the men's 500m at the 2018 Winter Olympics and holds the world record over that distance, breezed through his heats along with teammate Ren Ziwei. Ren also qualified for the 1,000m event along with An Kai and Han Tianyu, both of whom will also feature in Saturday's 1,500m semifinals. In the women's competition, Qu Chunyu, Zhang Chutong and Fan Kexin all eased past their opponents in the 500m qualifiers, while Zhang, Han Yutong and Zhang Yuting will also compete in the 1,000m on Sunday. Drury, Naeslund win FIS Ski Cross World Cup season opener

The season opener returned to the French resort after last year's event was cancelled due to bad weather. 31-year-old Drury beat Frenchman Youri Duplessis Kergomard and Ryan Regez to win the opener, while the 2014 Olympic gold medalist Jean-Frederic Chapuis was ranked 4th.
