By Jay Greene The Wall Street Journal Wed., Aug. 8, 2018 Salesforce.com Inc. promoted President and Chief Operating Officer Keith Block to co-chief executive, giving him shared leadership of the business-software company with its co-founder and chairman, Marc Benioff. Mr. Block, a former Oracle Corp. executive who joined Salesforce in 2013 as vice chairman and president, now will report directly to Salesforce’s board of directors. Mr. Benioff, who will go from being sole CEO to co-CEO, will continue leading the company’s “vision and innovation in areas including technology, marketing, stakeholder engagement and culture,” while Mr. Block will run the company’s “growth strategy, execution and operations,” Salesforce said. Otherwise, not much else seems to be changing: Benioff remains chairman of the board, and Block will keep his own board seat. Salesforce co-founder Parker Harris will be joining the board, too. Notably, Oracle – Salesforce’s biggest rival – has two CEOs, too. Shares of MuleSoft were briefly halted on Tuesday after news reports that the company is in advanced talks to sell itself to Salesforce. Shares of MuleSoft, were briefly halted on Tuesday after Reuters reported that the company was in advanced talks to sell itself to Salesforce. By the end of the day, Salesforce announced the deal. When word first leaked the deal was in process, investors drove MuleSoft’s shares up 20% before trading was stopped.
