The party fought the decision to fell trees at Aarey Colony, but the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, which it controls, wants to chop down 1,000 trees for a Bal Thackeray memorial in Priyadarshini Park. The first decision Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took after he assumed charge on November 29 was to halt work on a Metro car shed at Aarey Colony that would require the felling of many trees. However, Shiv Sena-governed Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is all set to cut around 1,000 trees for a memorial of the party’s founder, the late Bal Thackeray, in Aurangabad’s Priyadarshini Park. Priyadarshini Park is dense wood spread across 17 acres in the middle of Aurangabad and apart from serving as a green lung it is used for walking, jogging and other leisure activities. India in growth recession; extreme centralisation of power in PMO not good: Rajan
Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan said India is in the midst of a “growth recession” with signs of deep malaise in the Indian economy that is being run through extreme centralisation of power in Prime Minister’s Office and powerless ministers. Fatal ‘Flying Shark’ crashes compel China to speed-up carrier stealth fighter project
The Hong-Kong based South China Morning Post reports a series of mechanical failures and four crashes are behind the push to replace the J-15s that have been conducting experimental flight operations aboard China’s first aircraft carrier, Liaoning. The J-15 ‘Flying Shark’ is a derivative of the Russian Su-33 fighter. This is itself a descendant of the Su-27, a 30-year old Cold War design. But the J-15 is proving to be too big, too heavy — and too unreliable — for operations aboard China’s smaller aircraft carriers. Liaoning is a refurbished Soviet-era aircraft carrier purchased from the Ukraine in the late 1990s. Beijing’s first home-built aircraft carrier, known only as Type 002A, is a reverse-engineered version of the Soviet design. Both are considerably smaller than the United States’ nuclear powered aircraft carriers, yet the J-15 is heavier than anything the US ships operate. And this has pushed Chinese carrier landing and takeoff … [Read more...] about Fatal ‘Flying Shark’ crashes compel China to speed-up carrier stealth fighter project
