A hundred blows of indifference
We have heard the legend of King Uttanapada who rejected his first wife and her son Dhruv, reserving all his attention and affection for his second wife and her son. Dhruv longs for paternal love, he dreams of being caressed by his father. He undertakes a long penance in the forest seeking a boon, to be taken on his father’s lap.Sometimes myths ‘photograph’ reality. Reading Bhimsen Joshi, My Father by son Raghavendra Bhimsen Joshi (Raghu) is to see a modern Dhruv undergoing the same emotions felt by his ancient counterpart. Right from the dedication we know that the biographer recognises his mother’s and wife’s lifelong support, but his heart is given to a far from ideal father, who treated his wife and legitimate sons with scant respect. He surrenders “to the divine notes of my father Bhimsen Joshi,” and signs off with a revealing image, “to which I am always tied through my umbilical cord.” A desperate longing for acceptance as ... » Learn More about A hundred blows of indifference

Force India closes KERS option
With just five races to go before the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) becomes history, Force India Formula One team has closed that option, saying it’s not worth the money or hassle. Force India chairman Vijay Mallya said that introducing KERS at this stage would not only upset the car’s balance but also burn a hole in his pocket. With the Formula One Team Association (FOTA) deciding to shun KERS from the next season, Mallya said it was not worth spending a fortune on the device. “It’s going to be impossible to introduce KERS in the last five races,” he said. “It weighs a good 30 kilos, changes the entire balance of the car and just for five races, well, I think it’s useless,” Mallya said. KERS was introduced this year to rev up racing with the device allowing drivers an 80bhp power boost which they can use for up to 6.7 seconds each lap. Force India’s VJM02 cars were initially designed to run KERS and the outfit had plans to ... » Learn More about Force India closes KERS option
