KUANTAN (Bernama): Continuous heavy rain since Saturday (Jan 2) has caused several roads in Pahang to be closed due to landslides or floods on Sunday (Jan 3). Raub OCPD Supt Supt Kama Azural Mohamed said Jalan Raub-Bukit Fraser was closed to all traffic at noon Sunday following two landslides at KM4 and KM6 of the road causing it to be blocked. Meanwhile, a witness told Bernama that there were nine cars and three motorcycles trapped between the two landslides. Driver PH aims to lessen road accidents
According to Metro Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Accident Reporting and Analysis System in 2019, truck accidents comprise 15.33 percent of total road accidents with 98 deaths in the country. To help make our roads safer, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) together with the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) and Quicktrans Cargo Moving Inc. officially inked the research collaboration agreement to develop software and hardware solutions to train Filipino truck drivers using Internet of Things (IoT) via a virtual signing ceremony. As the Philippine economy progressed in the past decade, evidenced by the expansion in the trucking industry, there is also an increase in demand for qualified professional truck drivers and helpers in fleet management and operations. However, the training of qualified drivers cannot cope with the increasing demand, leaving industries no choice but to accept underqualified and inexperienced drivers which often causes road ... » Learn More about Driver PH aims to lessen road accidents

Thailand to Use Natural Rubber in all Future Road Construction
As rubber prices continue to drop worldwide Thailand’s Prime Minister has signed an agreement to use natural rubber in road construction. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the signing ceremony of an agreement to use local Thai rubber in road construction, part of an effort to help the country’s financially strapped rubber farmers. The Economic Intelligence Center has predicted a gloomy outlook for rubber prices in Thailand this year. Above all due to tepid demand from China and increased domestic supply. Thailand traditionally relies on Chinese consumption of its rubber, with 40% of exports destined for the world’s second largest economy. Thai rubber is exported largely to make automobile tires. Gen. Prayut used the occasion to praise the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Prince of Songkla University; the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research; the Rubber Plantation Cooperative Fund; and also the Engineering ... » Learn More about Thailand to Use Natural Rubber in all Future Road Construction
Bangkok’s Patpong Road Entertainment Venues on their Last Legs
The vivid lights of Bangkok’s Patpong Road are slowly ebbing away as many entertainment venues cannot keep their heads above water. Many bars are taking their last gasps of air amid an economic slump caused by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. On Feb 22, the Thai Governmnet allowed the reopening of entertainment venues as well as pubs and bars in almost all provinces except Samut Sakhon, where alcohol drinks can be sold until 11pm. Entertainment venues on Bangkok’s Silom Soi 2 and Silom Soi 4 have gained some customers, but Patpong Road, once a centre of Bangkok’s night life, is dead. “We have to be frugal on everything, and have had to lay off some staff and our girls,” a 64-year-old manager of a bar on Patpong Road said, adding there are only 9 or10 bars in total left now. “The first wave was much better as people [still] had their own savings, but when the second wave arrived, not many were able to survive. The place next door has just closed because of the second ... » Learn More about Bangkok’s Patpong Road Entertainment Venues on their Last Legs
Adherence to the ASEAN Charter matters to all
ASEAN used to be considered an organization that tended to sweep the dirt under the carpet, but that is no longer the case, at least since the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter in December 2008. The Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (IAMM) on March 2, 2021, that followed Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi’s shuttle diplomacy was a case in point. All ASEAN foreign ministers, including a representative of the Myanmar military authority, attended the virtual meeting held specifically to discuss the developments in Myanmar. The IAMM called for the safety of the people, restoration of democracy and constitutional government, rules of law and respect of human rights, as enshrined in the ASEAN Charter, which Myanmar, under the military-ruled government, has ratified. As ASEAN still faces some pressing issues, including COVID-19, the main message of the IAMM constitutes ASEAN’s prompt response and concern about the situation in Myanmar, as well as willingness to help stop the ... » Learn More about Adherence to the ASEAN Charter matters to all

‘Allen v. Farrow’: Docu on 29-year-old sexual abuse case a moral reckoning in the age of #MeToo
It’s more a case of David and Goliath than “Batman v Superman.” Indeed, while the two conflicting parties grappling for their versions of the truth in HBO’s explosive four-part documentary “Allen v. Farrow” are both Hollywood celebrities, you don’t need to be an expert at rocket science to realize just how powerful one is compared to the other. We’re talking about four-time Oscar-winning writer-actor-director Woody Allen (“Annie Hall,” “Manhattan,” “Hannah and Her Sisters”) and his muse-turned-nemesis actress Mia Farrow (“Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Great Gatsby”). In the ’80s and early ’90s, the fabled couple did 13 films together. Woody, who’s now 85 years old, has made a film every year for 40 straight years, and is now preparing to shoot his 51st film—how prolific can you get? Top 10 things that changed in Thailand during the Covid outbreak
Things have changed. In some cases they’ve changed a lot and may never be the same again. Many people are suffering as a result of the impacts of lockdowns and the border closures. Entire industries, like aviation and entertainment, have been profoundly affected. Some people are being forced to re-invent their lives as a result. Fears over Covid-19 are causing people to change their habits and re-evaluate their lives. Here are some of the main things we believe have changed since January this year. Face Masks The now ever-present face mask will be with us for a long time. In Asia, it was never uncommon to see people wearing face masks for traffic, air pollution, fears of disease or just as a fashion statement. In the Covid-era, mask wearing will now just become part of what we wear when in public spaces. When we leave home we’ll check if we have our keys, our wallet AND our face mask. Even when the government relaxes the current laws about the wearing of face masks, most ... » Learn More about Top 10 things that changed in Thailand during the Covid outbreak
