The sudden and inexplicable resignations of Congress MLAs from the Puducherry Assembly have turned out to be an ingenious move to topple the Congress government led by V. Narayanasamy . This was done in 2019 with devastating effect in Karnataka. In both cases, the governments lost majority and went out of office. Resigning from the membership of the House is every member’s right. But according to Article 190 of the Constitution, the resignation should be voluntary or genuine. If the Speaker has information to the contrary, he or she is not obliged to accept the resignation. An innovative method But there is by now a familiar pattern to the resignations of Members of the Legislative Assembly. Such resignations invariably lead to the fall of the government and resignations take place only from the ruling parties in the States which are opposed to the ruling party at the Centre. These parties are, in fact, in a precarious condition because in most cases, the resignations are quite ... » Learn More about The structural fragility of Union Territories

China’s northeast shows positive growth, strong resilience
Video Player Close -- China's three northeastern provinces, Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Jilin, all achieved positive economic growth in 2020, a sign of the country's economic resilience against the backdrop of the world's worst pandemic in decades. -- Five years ago, the region began to show a sharp decline in its economic performance indicators, as the northeastern "rust belt" has long been afflicted by an aging population, dwindling investment and talent outflow. -- Global industry leaders like LyondellBasell and SK Hynix, covering a range of fields, including chemical production, new-energy vehicles and semiconductors, have piled into the region since 2020. BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- China's three northeastern provinces all achieved positive economic growth in 2020, a sign of the country's economic resilience against the backdrop of the world's worst pandemic in decades. Karnataka Premier League betting: Charge sheets against 16 for spot-fixing
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have filed three charge sheets against 16 people, months after starting the investigation into the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) spot-fixing scandal. "Among the 16 people chargesheeted on Friday are five players, five bookies, two KPL team owners and a member of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA)," a police officer said on Saturday. Of the 16, fourteen have already been arrested and released on bail even as two bookies, Amit Mavi and Manoj Kumar are absconding. According to the three charge sheets, the police have identified four occurrences of spot-fixing, including the 2019 final KPL between Ballari Tuskers and Balgavi Panthers. In one of the spot-fixing instances, Ballari Tuskers captain and teammate Abrar Qazi agreed to bat slowly in lieu of Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, Bengaluru Blaster bowling coach Vinuprasad and batsman M. Vishwanathan allegedly colluded to fix a match with Ballari Tuskers for Rs 10 lakh. ... » Learn More about Karnataka Premier League betting: Charge sheets against 16 for spot-fixing
Kiger vs Triber: Renault downscales to jump into new segment
NEW DELHI: The Renault Kiger is out on the roads and it not only faces massive competition in the segment but also from Triber , which has retailed close to 67,000 units since its launch in 2019. The Kiger has become the buzz of the town, especially because of its price point, but it will have to prove worthy of all the hype going around. The trend of a 5-seater extending into a 7-seater is lately very common. Hector to Hector Plus, Harrier to Safari, Creta to upcoming Alcazar and a few more in the pipeline will support that. Triber-Kiger phenomenon, on the other hand, is unique largely due to their price point of under-Rs 10 lakh and under-4-metre dimensions. TOI Auto closely looks at all the aspects that set the Kiger and the Triber apart and also what is common between them to help you decide which one suits you best. This comparison gives you a gist of which one actually offers the ‘value for money’ quotient more. EPL: Liverpool’s collapse continues; Chelsea held
Everton end 22-year jinx IMAGE: Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara reacts. Photograph: Laurence Griffiths/Reuters Twelve months ago Liverpool were ripping up the record books on the way to their first English top-flight title for 30 years but defeat by Everton on Saturday left them mulling a host of far less flattering statistics. Their 2-0 defeat at Anfield was their first loss at home to city rivals Everton since 1999 and was a fourth home league defeat in succession -- something they have not experienced since 1924. Manager Juergen Klopp's hopes of retaining their Premier League crown were already effectively over after a spectacular drop in form since defeat by Burnley ended a 68-match run without a home league loss. But Everton's win -- courtesy of a third-minute goal by Richarlison and a controversial penalty scored by Gylfi Sigurdsson -- means Liverpool are now in a scrap to even finish the season in the top four. Shapoorji Pallonji Group’s litigation stalls resolution process for Reliance Home Finance
MUMBAI: The debt resolution process of Reliance Home Finance Ltd ( RHFL ), which is at the final stages, has been hit by the Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) Group's litigation against the home finance company. The lenders of RHFL are unable to proceed with the resolution process due to a coercive stay obtained by the SP Group from the Delhi High Court in November 2019. As per the stay order, RHFL is prohibited from disposing, alienating, encumbering either directly or indirectly or otherwise part with the possession of any of its assets, thus directly impacting the ongoing debt resolution process. SP Group is a secured lender with just Rs 200 crore exposure out of a total debt of Rs 11,200 crore, i.e., less than 1.8 per cent of the total debt of RHF. RHFL's lenders have received four binding bids. Two of the bids, from ACRE and Authum Investments, are for all the assets of the company, while the other two bids, from Capri Global and Avenue-Arcil, are for only the retail ... » Learn More about Shapoorji Pallonji Group’s litigation stalls resolution process for Reliance Home Finance
