KOLKATA: CBSE schools have started sending notices to their Class-X board aspirants saying that there is no further reduction in the social science syllabus, in the wake of a ‘fake news’ that the Central Board of Secondary Education has again reduced the syllabus. The social science exams are scheduled for May 27. “This is fake. There has been no further reduction after what was done officially last year,” said Indrani Chattopadhyay, vice-principal of DPS Ruby Park. “For students, who are in the last leg of preparations, any news getting filtered down like this can cause excitement,” said Ayushman Sarkar, a Class-X student of DPS Ruby Park. Dehradun : The rescue teams engaged in clearing muck from the slush-choked tunnel of NTPC ’s Tapovan-Vishnugad hydro-power project are facing problems due to constant seepage of water in the tunnel. According to Swati Bhadoriya, Chamoli district magistrate, “The water is continuously seeping into the tunnel, which is creating problems for the teams working there to clear the muck. This is despite over half a dozen water pumping machines having been pressed into service.” Sources in the rescue teams told TOI that water from the Dhauliganga river is also entering the tunnel as after the February 7 flash-floods, the river bed and the tunnel bed are at the same elevation. The rescue personnel used excavators to divert the course of river flow to ensure that the muck-removing work is not hampered. An anonymous letter helped the Rajgopalnagar police crack a murder case of a 52-year-old man. The police have arrested his wife and 20-year-old son for arranging the murder of Mahamed Hanzala, in Hegganahalli . The accused have been identified as Sarvari Begum , 42, her son Shafir Rahman , 20 and three youths, Aftab, 21, Mohammed Saif, 20 and Syed Avez, 23. Police said that the mother and son laced six sleeping pills in the dinner and offered it to the deceased, Mohamed Hanzala, 52, on February 9. Soon after Hanzala went to sleep, the accused called the other three accused, who came over at around 3. 30 am and smothered Hanzala to death using a pillow.
