Pattaya, Chonburi – A new stadium estimated to have 20,000 seats is now 60 percent complete, according to the Pattaya City Mayor who visited the long under construction stadium late last week. The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunploem told Associated Thai Press, “The Chaiyapruek Stadium is inside the Eastern National Sports Training Center in Soi Chaiyapruek 2. It has been under construction for many years (2009, notes The Pattaya News, the stadium construction sat basically idle from 2012-2018) and has suffered multiple delays for various reasons.” “The construction contract period with the Rama 2-HT Joint Venture Company is being extended as some designs had to be changed due to many obstructions with natural rocks underneath the ground within the construction area.” The Mayor stated. Human Rights Watch says Thailand abuses lèse majesté law to silence protesters
The Human Rights Watch is speaking up against Thailand’s use of the lèse majesté law after 4 prominent pro-democracy activists were denied bail by the Bangkok Criminal Court and ordered into pretrial detention for allegedly insulting or defaming the Thai Monarchy. The HRW says the activists could be in detention for years until their trials are concluded. At a time of ongoing political protests calling on monarchy reform, Thai authorities have been “abusing” the draconian lèse majesté law by using it to “aggressively clamp down on speech they don’t like,” according to HRW’s Asia director Brad Adams. “Holding people in pretrial detention for peaceful expression portends a return to the dark days when people simply charged with this crime end up spending years in jail while their trials drag on interminably.” The lèse majesté law, under Section 112 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, carries a punishment of up to 15 years in prison for insulting or defaming the Thai Monarchy. ... » Learn More about Human Rights Watch says Thailand abuses lèse majesté law to silence protesters

Digital world backslides into autocratisation
- I love new technology and I often pick up the latest gadgets from sites like Kickstarter. Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder are one step closer to using humans as batteries. Not quite like the technology depicted in The Matrix, but still based on tapping into the thermoelectric energy generated by the body. In this case the energy will be used to power wearable devices, without the need for an additional battery. The target is to generate one volt per square centimetre of skin that can power fitness devices and other items. As usual with these stories, the technology represents potential and probably a decade away, by which time the robots will probably have taken over. - Facebook is flexing its digital muscles once again by banning all news content from Australia after the government there indicated it would be charging Facebook to link to news providers. The growing arrogance of the major social media providers and others like Microsoft, Apple and Sony shows ... » Learn More about Digital world backslides into autocratisation
Shining into the future
When was the last time you upgraded your desk light? Want to go all in on the smart home route? This Dyson "smart" light that can last 60 years may be the light that's right for you. Previously, my desk housed a typical bendable light with minor colour adjustments that I thought that was adequate for everything I needed to do at my desk. Never did I think a desk light could be "smart", nor did I know a fully customisable colour temperature of light to be something that will affect productivity and reduce eye strain until I used the Dyson Lightcycle Morph desk light. My thoughts changed after two months as I got used to moving the light to my area of focus and adjusting the yellow tint of the colour temperature and brightness to fit my mood. I also could turn the lamp off from the comfort of my bed by using a phone app. This smart light's motion sensors will turn the lamp on automatically when you enter the room and turn off when you leave the area. However, I found this ... » Learn More about Shining into the future
