The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering fielding Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit-Nene from the Pune Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general elections, party sources said. In June this year, BJP chief Amit Shah had met the actor at her residence in Mumbai during his party's 'Sampark for Samarthan' (Contact for Support) programme and briefed her on the achievements of the Narendra Modi government. A senior state BJP leader told PTI Thursday that her name has been shortlisted for the Pune Lok Sabha seat. "The party is seriously considering giving candidature to Madhuri Dixit in the 2019 general elections. We think the Pune Lok Sabha constituency will be better for her," he said. "The party is in the process of finalising the list of probables for several Lok Sabha seats and Dixit's name has been shortlisted for the Pune Lok Sabha constituency...She is being seriously considered for it," the leader said. The 51-year-old actor has featured in many Bollywood films, including "Hum … [Read more...] about BJP may field Madhuri Dixit from Pune in 2019 Lok Sabha elections

The Hot Seats in Jharkhand That Could Determine the Fate of Assembly Elections
A five-phase election spanning almost a month for the 81-member Jharkhand assembly has not evoked much response in the national media thus far where initially, it looked like the time span would help BJP to marshal resources and micromanage poll strategies. The challenge for the Raghubar Das government to retain power was all the more important after BJP failed to repeat its stellar performance of Lok Sabha polls in Haryana and Maharashtra. It should be recalled that Chhattisgarh, with 90 assembly constituencies and a greater Naxal presence, was put to vote in three phases this year. However, the election story of Jharkhand is not so simple and anyone who has covered the ground can tell that the polls in progress are going to be highly local in character and result. Last month’s Ayodhya verdict by the Supreme Court and abrogation of Article 370 provisions for Jammu and Kashmir do not find much resonance in these elections. The BJP has adopted a change in tack in Jharkhand this … [Read more...] about The Hot Seats in Jharkhand That Could Determine the Fate of Assembly Elections
