YOKOHAMA: Nissan Motor Co Ltd said on Thursday it would, for now, stick to self-driving technology which uses radar sensors and cameras, avoiding lidar or light-based sensors because of their high cost and limited capabilities. The Japanese automaker unveiled updated self-driving technology a month after Tesla Inc's Chief Executive Elon Musk called lidar "a fool's errand", berating the technology for being expensive and unnecessary.Nissan, which wants to have its self-driving cars on city streets by 2020, has long shunned lidar, a relatively new technology for automobiles which has recently been the subject of an influx in investment by many of its rivals."At the moment, lidar lacks the capabilities to exceed the capabilities of the latest technology in radar and cameras," Tetsuya Iijima, general manager of advanced technology development for automated driving, told reporters at Nissan's headquarters."It would be fantastic if lidar technology was at the level that we could use it in our … [Read more...] about On the radar: Nissan stays cool on lidar tech, siding with Tesla

The insurance policy must offer up to Bt40,000 coverage for outpatient treatment and up to Bt400,000 for inpatient treatment. This is one of the measures the government has introduced to ease the financial burden placed on state hospitals by foreigners, many of whom have not paid for treatment. “The Cabinet has already approved the new rule,” Health Service Support Department director-general Nattawuth Prasert-siripong revealed yesterday. By Jack Lakey The Fixer Tues., May 7, 2019 The explosion of cherry blossoms at High Park is a sight to behold, unless walking into the park is a mountain too high. If the only way for you to get there is in a car with a handicapped parking pass, better find blossoms somewhere else. High Park is out of bounds for you and many others who have trouble walking. It seems everybody is budding with excitement over the annual High Park cherry blossoms. One proletariat writer in the Star declared that he prefers the park over all the exquisite cottages in Muskoka and is delighted by the ban on vehicles during the extravaganza. Huzzah for the little people, but we prefer the cottage. Our pilot will engage the helicopter as soon as Jeeves returns from shopping for comestibles at Pusateri’s. Conrad and Barbara will be joining us for the weekend. That is of no import for inhabitants of the urban jungle. They want to enjoy a blossomy interlude. And who are we - or the … [Read more...] about Can’t walk? Then no High Park cherry blossoms for you
