Police were speaking with the teens following the slaying of freshman Tessa Majors, 18, who was beaten and stabbed at the base of stairs in Morningside Park near West 116th Street and Morningside Drive around 5.30pm on Wednesday, ABC 7 reported. A school security guard called police upon discovering her body, riddled with stab wounds. Investigators found a trail of blood indicating that Ms Majors had tried to make her way back up the park stairs toward Morningside Drive, police sources said. TMZ reports the he passed away following a sudden illness on Thursday night at a medical facility in New Jersey. The actor had apparently suffered an infection in relation to his treatment, and passed away shortly after he was visited by his family at the medical facility. New Jersey shootout claims 6 lives
Six people were killed on Tuesday afternoon in Jersey City, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from Manhattan after two suspects shot and killed a police officer and then holed up in a supermarket. The suspects then exchanged gunfire for more than an hour with police before dying in the shootout, officials said. The other three victims, believed to be bystanders, were pronounced dead inside the JC Kosher Supermarket. A second police officer was shot and wounded, while two other police officers were injured by shrapnel during the lengthy firefight. Law enforcement sources identified the dead officer as Detective Joseph Seals, 40, a longtime Jersey City police veteran and married father of five. The standoff with police at the grocery store started about 12:30 pm and was punctuated with exchanges of gunfire that didn't stop until just before 2 pm. John Sullivan confirmed as new US envoy to Russia
WASHINGTON -- US Senate on Thursday confirmed John Sullivan, currently the deputy secretary of state, as the new US ambassador to Russia. Sullivan secured his confirmation by a 70 to 22 vote in the Senate. US President Donald Trump said in August that Sullivan "could very well be" his nominee to replace then US ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman, who had announced his resignation earlier that month. Sullivan has served as deputy secretary of state since May 2017. Previously in his career, he had served as deputy secretary of commerce and held senior positions in justice, defense, and commerce departments, according to the statement. Sullivan's taking office came during a difficult period of US-Russia relations.
