Heavy rain and bad light hit the second day of the historic Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Thursday, Pakistan’s first home Test since a deadly attack in 2009. Sri Lanka, resuming at 220-5, had progressed to 225-5 in 7.5 overs when heavy rain in the morning forced the teams to have early lunch. Play was stopped for two hours and 43 minutes but when it resumed only 10 overs were possible with Sri Lanka losing Niroshan Dickwella for 33 before bad light accompanied by rain forced an early call-off at 3:30 pm (1030 GMT).At the close Sri Lanka were 263-6 with Dhananjaya de Silva unbeaten on 72 and Dilruwan Perera not out on two. Yasir Shah to work with spin consultant Mushtaq Ahmed ahead of 2nd Sri Lanka Test
Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah has been temporarily released from the national squad in order to work with spin consultant Mushtaq Ahmed at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore ahead of the side's second Test against Sri Lanka, beginning December 19 in Karachi. The 33-year-old was earlier left out of Pakistan's Playing XI for this week's opening Test against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi--which was the first-ever five day game in the country in over a decade. Shah, who is the fastest bowler to take 200 Test wickets besides being Pakistan's seventh-highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game, will now work with Mushtaq to improve his spin bowling before rejoining the squad in Karachi on December 16. Sri Lanka to create 100,000 strong multi purpose task force for development
Video PlayerClose COLOMBO, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's new cabinet of ministers has decided to create a 100,000 strong "multi-purpose task force" to develop the country in the coming months, Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Ramesh Pathirana told a weekly media briefing here on Thursday. The multi-purpose task force will be made up of those who have passed the ordinary level examinations in year 10, and are from low income families in all districts. A separate department will soon be created for the multi-purpose development task force, Pathirana said. The task force will be give a six-month training and be distributed among government departments, affiliated agencies and also the private sector, Pathirana said.
