MANILA - Online jobs in content creation dominated the online freelancing space last year signifying the "viral importance" of a company's online presence, a report said Wednesday. Writing was the fastest-growing job category, up 537.5 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year, Freelancer.com said in a statement, based on openings posted on its platform. Application programming interface (API) was the second fastest, followed by blockchain, academic writing, 2D animation, social media management, blog writing, Express JS, Shopify templates, and drawing related jobs, according to Freelancer.com's "Fast 50 Report." The popularity of content-related skills such as writing, design and animation rose "dramatically" following a surge in content-heavy jobs during the first 3 months and the last 3 months of the year, it said. SINGAPORE - Singapore hiring is likely to see stable growth in 2019, with top jobs in demand to be analytical and data-driven in nature, according to the latest annual salary survey by recruitment firm Robert Walters. These include data scientists, product management, user experience (UX) designers, and digital roles, with cyber security to remain a major focus, in the wake of recent high-profile cyber attacks in Singapore. The report also found that job movers in Singapore can expect pay increments of 5 per cent to 15 per cent in 2019, and larger hikes can be expected for candidates with specialised skill sets in IT, digital and financial services. Manila. Many have predicted that millions of jobs are in line to become extinct over the next two decades due to automation, but it may not spell the end of overall employment. A study by McKinsey Global Institute released in 2017 found that up to 800 million global workers, or one-fifth of the global workforce, will lose their jobs to automation, which is expected to come into full effect by 2030. The study researched 800 occupations in 46 countries and concluded that machine operators and food workers will be hit the hardest, along with professionals employed as accountants, paralegals and even mortgage brokers. The International Labor Organization (ILO) also found that over next two decades, more than half of all workers in five Southeast Asian countries will be replaced by robots.
